It's called a 'salvage title' ... one of the biggest con games going, and a DIRTY SECRET OF THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY!!!
The seller implies that 'all you have to do is a simple repair, and you have a perfectly good SC! That is a fraudulent claim, as a salvage title car essentially has NO HISTORY! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

They refer to the car's 'Clear Title' twice, and then point out that it's been written off as a total loss. If an insurance company's total write-off doesn't compromise a title, what does?
Then they have the stones to point out the scratch on the upholstery as evidence of their eagerness to expose all of the car's faults. But of course they never tell you what fell on the thing to do all that damage. I'd buy that for $3000. Not much more though. It might make a nice DE or club racer someday.

Well of course the title is "clear"... Probably figure that's close enough to "clean" as they can legally get...
...and AS IF that scratch was the worst problem... What I wanna know is how that happened... SOmeone drop a telephone pole on it? |

For $3000 who cares what happened! The parts are worth more than that.
It is easy to get a cars title declared salvage only. It is also easy to have it changed back. In this case the price is right, no rippoff. Easy enough to check to see if the title is clean. You may be missing out on a great deal for a track or parts car. |

A salvage title means it can never be licensed/tagged (or driven on the street). But, as pointed out, the perfect start for a track car.

I agree with RarlyL8, but at $3,350.00 with the reserve not yet met, I doubt it will end up being that much of a bargain. I wonder what the reserve is.

Looks like a great parts car itself. Some states do allow you to repair, certify, register, and drive salvage title vehicles. I vote for a forklift or other two pronged object as the damage giver. I also vote for other structural/suspension damage caused by the fall. For $3,000 this would be a great start for parts....

Wonder if the PO had one of those "lifts" in his garage? You know,, the ones you see in magazines that allows you to park one car under the other. maybe he didn't remove the bottom car before he lowered down the top one!
![]() Or,,,,,,,,,,, he had it a the shop parked in the bay and the rookie fork truck driver was trying to place something on the rack above his car and dropped the forks on it! ------------------ 85 Carrera Targa |

With 6 days+ left, it isn't going to be a 'cheap' source of parts!
$6K+ before the feeding frenzy is over ... And, yes, a salvage title for a '75 Corvette is how a friend's 427 SC cobra replica is registered ... after several years work and sweat! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Hello
Roof repair is not easy on a 911. The only way to use the car is striping it and make a race car out off it. But I think someone will make a cheap repair by cuting the pillars. Maybe we will see it on ebay again. Maybe we will hear the full story that someone just walked over the car and the previous owner salvaged it due strange reasons. Grüsse |

Depends on where you intend to go with your interest in Pcars. If you are looking for a great sportscar that is nimble and quick and carries a great name you have nothing to loose here. The roof is replaceable and the work can be done "right" and the price is really not all that bad. My brother replaced the roof clip on his track car (to no sunroof), the replacement is flawless and structurally sound.
Many Pcar people endeavor to bring there cars to near new condition and that just isn't possible here. Get the PPI, decide and negotiate the sale, and get the roof replaced. Put that SC on a diet, upgrade/update the suspension and brakes, maintain the engine and transmission and you will enjoy that great Porsche experience we all crave and live for! As far as the title is concerned I would get lots of pictures and all the insurance documentation. So that when you sell the car you would at least get out of it what you put into it. Each state has their own rules on salvage titles. This makes things very confusing for all. There are a lot of cars running around the midwest with savage titles. Some good, some not. You can total a P-car out real fast with minimal damage. Repair costs can easily become greater than 75-90% of the value of an SC or earlier 911.
