Post jack points, you really use these?

I have been doing more and more of my own maintenance lately and find myself under the car from time to time. My question is do you really trust the jack points in front of the rear flares? They look a little wimpy to me. I am always afraid I gonna see the rear quarter buckle! What do you guys do, jack up one side, put a stand under the adapter plate deal then do the same to the other side? Or do you put tire stands under the rear tires one at a time when you need to crawl under the old girl? Thanks.

The jack tube you speak of is not part of the rear quarter, so don't worry about buckling. It's welded to the inside of the longitudinal quite securely. So unless your longitudinals are rusted out, the tube's not going anywhere (ask me how I know).

I would NEVER go under the car while it was up just on a floor jack and adaptor plate. No matter how straight you get the plate on, they still love to slide if you wrench on the car.

What I do is use the adaptor plate/floor jack to raise the car, then I put a jackstand under the round spring plate cover. Works great, and you can work on just about anything that way. Easy to put the whole rear up on 2 stands like that.

That's about the only place you can safely jack a 911, since you don't want to jack under the engine or transmission, and there are no other specified, "safe" jacking points. Those square tubes are stout, and the preceding post is correct: put jackstands under the tubular ends of the swingarms after raising the car.

Well now I'm confused: I have been told that you can jack the car via the sump as long as you use a crushable media between the jack and the sump proper.

Also, I slip my jackstands under the frankenstein ears within the wheel wells on my SC: is this verbotten? Seems to have worked to date, and I am very, very careful about ensuring that the car is solid prior to crawling under it.

Finally, I always put the tires under the car so that I have "safe room" should the car fall down. I suppose everybody does this...

I don't put the tires under the car although I might start. I just use two jack stands at the above location and then leave the jack under the jack pads for a backup.

-the sump issue? Dunno, but I've never done it. Seems easier to just use the jack points.
-frankenstein ears=spring plate covers. Not verboten at all--I think that's what we all use.
