poorshe911 04-24-2012 01:36 PM

A set of Clewett from our host are fine.

rfuerst911sc 04-24-2012 02:18 PM

I have Clewett wires on both of my 3.0's and they have held up well. Good fit and price is reasonable and agree buy from our host.

kodioneill 04-24-2012 02:43 PM

Like they said.

kinein 04-24-2012 02:47 PM

what about the beru wires?

Targalid 04-24-2012 03:03 PM

I bought Magnecors from our host. They also work well. I had OEM Beru wires with the braided metal sheath. They were old so I do not fault them but they gave quite a light show in the engine compartment. If your current ignition wires are old, as in 26 years old, you might do the visual test in total darkness with the engine running and the engine lid open. Just see if there are any light shows playing in your engine compartment. I think any of the wires mentioned in this thread are good if they are new, Clewitt, Beru or Magnecor. Some people on this forum buy the ignition cable in bulk and fit proper ends on them. That is supposed to be cheaper. I believe I read that the old cable ends, if undamaged, can be reused with new ignition cable.

rnln 04-24-2012 03:12 PM

how about DIY and do it with bigger size? Is bigger better?

kinein 04-24-2012 03:37 PM

any ideas

kinein 04-24-2012 03:47 PM

so bigger wires? what brand?

rnln 04-24-2012 04:12 PM

I am throwing up a question to see if any response. On other cars I had, many get bigger wire and claimed better performance.

81 SC Ray 04-24-2012 04:14 PM

Beru's - perfect fit, perfect look, perfect performance - after all, how long have the ones you got lasted.................

kinein 04-24-2012 04:45 PM

i bought this motor with 62k on it. they have been sitting around for awhile so i guess if they are original 26yrs ill take a pic of them when i get home

llangston1 04-24-2012 06:15 PM

I changed out to some red Magnecores from the host last fall and they work fine.

PabloX 04-24-2012 06:41 PM

I just put red Magnecors (as well as a cap and rotor) in my '86 this past weekend. I finished on Sunday and it was raining, so I haven't even had a chance to drive the car since.

Purely from an installation standpoint, the Magnecors are a minor PITA. First, if you want to reuse the OEM wire holders, you'll need to drill them because the Magnecors are thickets. This was easy. The part I didn't like was that the lengths on the wires weren't quite right. A couple were just right, a couple were a bit too short and a couple were a bit too long. I made them work but it made routing them more difficult that it should have been.

KV85 Magnecors

DWeg1998 04-24-2012 08:50 PM

I just put the Beru's in last weekend. My decision was based on aesthetics as I liked the stock look of the black wires, wire covers, spacers, and brackets. And my old plastic bits were cracking into pieces.

Installation took a while as I learned that the AC compressor had to come out to route them in the factory location with stock brackets. But everything fit perfect since I was replacing with the identical wire.

Hydrocket 04-24-2012 08:53 PM

I have Magnecors on mine...

kinein 04-24-2012 09:13 PM

i think i am leaning towards beru. i did the light test i see a little light show

rusnak 04-24-2012 09:23 PM

Just make sure you use the wire holders and do not cross-wire them out of firing sequence.

Thankfully, the two little stickers in the engine bay that show firing order are quite helpful here, plus the Bosch cap is labeled as well.

+1... and it add some color but had to slightly enlarge the wire holders with a drill.

so what are the thoughts of clewett vs. beru?

kinein 04-25-2012 07:53 AM

and how are the clewetts fitting any cutting drilling stretching or whatever problems with installing them? vs beru?

kinein 04-25-2012 08:06 AM

now would you go stock or aftermarket at this point? i know cost is $80 different but thats not a concern i want plug and play not drill cut then try to fit. any thoughts?

I'd say you want the Berus then. Plus, the Berus (at least the old ones I pulled out of my car) are labeled with which cylinder they go to, which is handy.

Fit great on both motors. I went with black so they look fairly OEM.

cmcfaul 04-26-2012 11:34 AM

I have owned a bunch of different one. The red Magnecors are, by far, the best. Getting the other brands on and and off the plug can be a PITA as they are slippery. The Magnacores have tab on the end that completly eliminates any issue.

Bottom line, they fit better than the others I have tried.

The ONLY plug and play set of wires is the Beru's. No drilling - no new ends - no poblems. They were good enough for Porsche - therefore they are good enough for me.

But are they attention blindingly bright red?

Hugh R 04-26-2012 03:17 PM

This may be heresy, but having owned British trash, I think a p-car engine is mostly boring to look at, especially a stock one from the 80's you really can't see much. An older one, or when with all the crap on top of the engine is missing and a nice set of Webers, that is a different story. Why do some people polish/anodize their fans? Its about the only thing you can really see.

Carl83911 04-26-2012 03:23 PM

Beru wires ...

The originals lasted 25+years. That for me is a testament of their durability and quality.

None of the aftermarket ones i doubt will ever last as long as Berus.

Besides, most aftermarket are modified to use Beru ends. Beru connectors fit best.

Buy OEM.

Note: make sure you get the ones NOT "Made in China". The ones made in France or Germany are best.

gtc 04-26-2012 03:38 PM

Magnecors are made in America.

You guys really think that in 25 years, the spark plug wires have never been changed by a previous owner? Do YOU intend to leave those new Beru's on there for 25 years?

gtc 04-26-2012 03:42 PM

Also, the thread-on Beru connectors are crap. Why do you think there is a market for used ones? Hint: Because they fail all the time.

81 SC Ray 04-26-2012 03:47 PM

31 years - no connector failure.....

kinein 04-27-2012 07:49 AM

who makes orange plug wires?

kinein 04-27-2012 08:18 AM

forget the orange they will get dirty i need functional more then looks. i will be installing my supercharger so just need good plug wires. leaning towards beru but magnecor has me from actually doin the purchase still on the fence

kinein 05-03-2012 10:38 PM

so i finally recvd. my beru wire set, bosch cap and bosch rotor and what a difference WOW
