does anybody know my cars?
hello community,
my name is oswald. i live in bavaria, germany. i'm a member of "elferteam", a german board about our passion. "elfer" means "11", short for 911. i own a '68 911us plus a '70, my'71 911t. i bought them here in germany but both were reimported from the us. i wonder if anybody know something about my cars. in addition to the pictures her a few facts: '68 911: 6808 burgundy red, matching numbers, unrestored, just a bad overspray of the factory paint coat. the odometer read 12k miles (date of purchase). due to the title it was located in michigan from about 1996 to 2006 when it left the states. having no serios rust i assume that it started life in the south. '70 911t: production date: 9/70 1010 black, matching numbers, bare-metal paint job (close to excellent), new front fenders, no welding. the odometer read 55k miles (date of purchase). the key fob read "porsche carlsen palo alto", ignition switch changed (different key). interior renewed, but not to factory standard. "pca"-sticker on rear window. engine runs very strong as you would expect from a 2.2 911e. there a no visuable changes to the motor. it was delivered to san francisco and left from there in 2005 to germany. for the past 4 years i tried to bring them back to euro-factory standard as far as visible things are concerned. thank you for your support oswald ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

thank you all for your response,
a lot of german answers here, too. try also "www.elferteam.de" ..well, black was a very uncommon color in 1970. it was not a standard paint, they charged about 250 dollar for this feature. the client also asked for seats in pepita....what a good idea. currently i'm waiting for my 6x15 deep six without hearts (my'71) to come back from anodizing. then i just have to dip them into satin matte black paint.... recovered seats in pepita, restored interior 911 '70, note the headrest ![]() 2.2-sticker on rear window ![]() h1 headlamps on the black one ![]() ...and christmas tree on the '68 ![]() cheers from the old world, oswald |

Great cars...
Dumb question time... What's that thing on the left front of the engine? (left of dizzy) I'm guessing air pump but someone please confirm.

Oswald,
First, Welcome to the Forum ![]() You will find a lot of help here. Finding the provenance of your 911s is very important. They have a story to tell. Knowing and documenting their history also adds to their value. I recommend you get a CoA from Porsche AG. See if they will tell you what USA Importer and Dealer the car went through. It is remotely possible the Dealer might be able to tell you the original owner. PCA archives may be able to help you from there. Also, start with the title you got from the USA. Many (most?) States have computerized DMV records starting in the 80s. For example, California has searchable records from 1983. For a modest fee you can search. With some luck, you may be able to have the records meet in the middle. I have a twin to your 68 that I special ordered new from Porsche KG in late 67. I can offer details to help get yours back original. As you know, a 68 has lots of unique parts and features. Good that you still have the smog pump. Please dont remove it. You can make it appear to function but not pump air. Ill encourage you to make the engine exactly as original. I can help. If you feel you want something Euro and more power, build yourself a 2.8S on an early 68 aluminum crankcase. From your images, I cant tell if the wheels are the original 5˝x15 Fuchs. You should collect a set of five. I have early (deep) 6x15 in front and 7x15R in the rear or late 7x15 all around with my 5˝x15 in storage. Bosch H1 were first for sale in 1969. I have them on my 68. Relays are necessary. Be sure and save your sugar scoop headlights. It is desirable to get a set of NOS 68 USA only side reflectors. Someday it may be desirable to reinstall them. Was your 68 originally ordered with Koni shocks and sway bars? If not, install sway bars. I ordered these options and the 911 came additionally with 911S/L vented brakes. This is another very desirable feature if not already in place. Good that the original vinyl steering wheel is in place. The USA version did not have the wings on the horn. That button is another 68 USA only part to squirrel away. I have the 67 version like yours and changed to a 70 914-6GT steering wheel storing my vinyl original. I ordered my 68 with S instruments. That is an easy (and worthwhile) upgrade. Save the original. The radio does not appear original. Perhaps you can find a Blaupunct Berlin or similar. (You can always hide an MP3 under the dash.) Yes, black was a special order color in 70. Your 911T also has the Appearance Group (wide trim, gold lettering and more). Some came with a relatively rare wheel-opening trim option. This was thin chrome trim that lined the wheel arches. Yes, many came with black/white houndstooth upholstery another extra cost option. They never had the headrests in fabric. Have you converted the shifter from the 915-type back to original? . . . Pause. My student is here. More to come. Best, Grady

hello grady,
thank you for responding, your inspiration and informations. there's a CoA for the 911 my'71. it was delivered to san francisco. special orders were : apparence group, tinted glass, houndtooth/leatherette seats and light alloy wheels. poor quality of headrest recovers inspired me to have them in houndtooths, too. a few month later i saw a commercial picture from the porsche AG, which shows a 1969 2.0 coupe in tangarine with headrests in houndtooth. i don't know, if they're ever availible. shifter was original, i've repaired it and bought the correct plastic cover. the dash might be aftermarket without loudspeaker hole. i got me some basketweave door panels with holes (very cheap), kept the speakers in the doors and installed a period correct "becker mexico cassette stereo" with black anodized frame instead of the chrome one. besides: "becker" always was first choice in germany, "blaupunkt" is also of high quality but not that "legendary" here. mercedes benz even didn't offer blaupunkt radios factory-installed in that period. us-dealers had to mount them in the states. for the '68 i haven't the CoA yet. i have to disappoint you, grady. my mechanic refused to reinstall the smog pump after repairing the chain tensioners. i keep the parts well - i agree with you 100%. the wheels are 6x15 with hump (my'71- ). i'm currently looking for the 5.5x15s they are really hard to distinguish. due to the german drivers manual h1 head lights were first availible for the '68 model, check code 9273 (not legal in the us) in the lists i've attached. h4 lights first appared in my'73 (due to drivers manual of that year) reflectors are still availible at "retromotorworks" in yellow. i didn't find red ones yet. holes in fenders are still in place. i already got a pair of red painted yellow markers. i'm not sure if i should install them. they are not legal in germany either. unfortunally the are no vented brakes nor sway bars mounted. lets see what the future brings. some day i will find some bars for reasonable conditions..... in the moment i'm not really thinking of improving all that things.... i didn't knew about the horn button issue. a friend got also a reimported twin of our cars. he got the "bakelit"-steering wheel with butterfly-button, too. i installed a period "becker grand prix" because the aluminium trim around the radio was spoiled. blaupunkts originally could be mounted without faceplates, beckers always got a faceplate (with pistripes to that time) because chrome-frame scale with pushbuttons are smaller. under dash works a "becker cassette" player, which first appaered in 1969 (mono) i attached a list of special orders for my'68. there you can find all availible radios. the signal seeking blaupunkt "köln" is your "new yorker". note: prices raised in the last years! thank you so much again, grady, hopefully i could also add some to your knowledge would you send me some pictures of your car? regards, oswald ![]()

Looks like everyone getting their Sports Seats recovered these days -- needs to ask to cover their head rest with"dog tooth Fabrik", as the photo shows.
