Check out my bling!

I just had to share this...
After searching for viable door handle options I decided to just have my original door handles restored. After a little searching, I found this guy in MN that does "pot metal" restoration. Mine were fairly corroded and pitted as I'm sure most others are as well.

Although my crappy iPhone photo doesn't do them justice, I can tell you the work is top notch! Not even the factory originals come close... You decide. These will look like jewelery next to to my DIY polished aluminum trim.

They truly look like liquid chrome was poured over the top of them.

That is chrome plating! It's hard to take a good photo of chrome. If anyone wants, I can take a better one when my wife gets home. She ran off with my CF card on a photo shoot.

His website is: Pot Metal Car Trim Restoration Repair Chrome Plating

I can't lie, the turn around was slow. He's fairly old school. Charges half up front (after quote) then the rest when done... and check only. No Paypal or CC.

That said, his work is really first rate. Mine took about 6 weeks total. I WILL be sending him my pop-out latches as well.

As for the cost... about the same for re-pop handles. Like I said, they were fairly ugly when I sent them in. He even took out all the original casting marks around the edges and so forth. If you look at your handles and see tiny little warts, those are holes where corrosion has started. The more you got, the more work he's got to do.

You need a better iPhone - but the chrome looks cool.

NO... CHROME plating, as in metal! I wouldn't have paid that kind of coin for powder coat.

I should also note that my handles were the original black chrome seen on most midyear cars (albeit faded)

IIRC, some Early S'ers have had that done on their Al window trim.

I guess they got tired of shelling out $2,000 bills for other restoration means.
