Oh, your gonna like this. Wrong rotor?
For the last week I have been trying to get my baby running after a major tuneup right. I ordered all my stuff from Pelican. I went to the MSD 6AL with the rev limiter. My car originally had the rev limiting rotor installed (7,000 RPM, which seems high to me anyway) and I no longer need it due to the redundant MSD unit. So I tell Pelican that I want the standard non rev limiting rotor for my application no problem right? Wrong, If you look at the pictures of a rev limiting rotor the pickup point is in a different location than the standard rotor. Assuming that a normal straight rotor has the brass contact at 12:00 based on the key on the shaft, the rev limiting version is at maybe 1:00-1:15. There was not enough movement in my distributor slide adjustment to compensate for this. Whats more, I did not even want to play with the distributor for the first 2-3 days cause I knew it was right when I put it away and I did not want to add another variable to the situation until I had it pretty well buttoned up. Now I can hear you saying why didn't you see this when you swapped them out, well I removed everything the day before I got the new ones so there you go( yes,I did enjoy digging thru the trash to find the old one last night). It still isn't running great but I believe that is a vacuum issue because I also found out that the 3/4" lines to the WUR are actually vacuum lines and the silicone lines I ran suck flat right away and the vacuum at the distributor is present but not very strong. So I am getting there. As a side note our tach's are voltage regulated if you have been following my posts at all you know what thats about.

On a positive note, once you think your way through this problem, no one is going to know their way around that engine better than you!

Owners screw up more than cars do. And when something does go wrong with a car it is usually something small. I heard the other day that 80% of bad motors are killed by an external component going bad. Isn't it grand that we spend years and years replacing many, many belts, hoses, gaskets, tires, pads rotors, upholstery, paint, etc., while the engine itself chugs along with no issues?
