Replace Front Condenser Motor
I'm trying to replace the motor on my front condenser but can't get the allen screw off the shaft to remove the cage. I've tried Kroil- any other suggestions?

Try wrapping a small piece of cloth around the seized part, then saturating the cloth with Kroil.
This will allow the Kroil to slowly soak into the siezed part. Allow to soak for several days, adding more Kroil if necessary.

I got mine off real easy but gave up when trying to remove the cage/fan off the shaft when the allen was out. Let me know if you get it off and how you got the cage off. I did not try a torch, just replaced the whole thing. Steve

1) After you have allowed the Kroil (great stuff) to soak overnight, try turning the allen clockwise first then counter clockwise, if that does not work....
2) If its loctite that is cured, try applying heat to the allen for a short while, either pin point flame propane or end of small soldering iron, if that does not work.... 3) drill out the allen using a drill that is a few thousand's smaller than the minor diameter of the thread root If you are able to remove the allen, note the distance of the fan hub to the shaft end when replacing the new motor. After you install the fan on the new motor, carefully place the motor upward in a vise (be careful not to crush the motor frame or brush contacts, there is a section on the motor by the brushes where the frame is open and you can vise square to it). Use a dial indicator on the top of the blower wheel and check for run out or wobble, typically you can achieve a .010 total run out by carefully bending back the high section. Do not remove any weight clips on the blades. Handle the assembly gently when re-inserting it into the plastic blower housing. If your circuit does not have an inline fuse by the motor insert a 7.5 or 10 amp fuse on the hot side. |
