Lighter spring in the Wevo?

Has anybody tried the lighter spring that is available for their Wevo shifter? I feel like I am kind of fighting it into 2nd gear and wonder if the softer spring would help? My 915 is surely tired but I wonder if I could get a few more years out of it and enjoy the shifting more with the lighter spring? I might try tweaking the adjustment a bit too.

Curious about others experiences, tried a search did not see anything.

wevo shifter help

I have a similar issue. Wevo shifter and coupler installed. First to second shift sometimes a little balky especially when cold. Seems to improve when warmed up. The shift (with a pause in neutral before going into second) I assumed was an idiosyncrasy of the 915, but I thought the Wevo would smooth out that 1-2 shift. Third to second has a similar kind of feel. All other shifts fine. I can live with it, but if the Wevo coupler, or the springs need tweaking any experienced advice would be appreciated. Anybody?

My issue was pre-load in 5th, it was causing a howel. If I took the pre-load off by pushing on the shifter and it was quiet. It just made sense that all that load was not good on the shift forks or sliders or whatever. There are some posts on this but no real clear answer whether the high pre-load is okay.

I did my own fix, went to OSH and picked up a spring kit in hardware and used lighter springs and some washers to adjust. It's nice now but you loose a little of what keeps it on the 3/4 shift pane but you still know where you are.

Just my 2 cents.

These guys sell for the most part every thing mechanical, if you can fit one to the right length with possibly a different spring constant you may be able to find some thing softer that works.

McMaster-Carr

Can you cut the spring, I thought of doing that to the rennshift after I tested shifting without the springs, but that defeats the purpose? I'm thinking of cutting a coil, or like stated you could measure and find some more.

I use the heavier spring on the 1-2 plane, and the lighter springing on the 5th gear side. I have never had a problem pulling against the springs on the 3-2 downshift and like the more positive 3-4 plane to avoid missed shifts on the track. But I always hated the 4-5 upshift action. Having the lighter spring in there for 5th made it just about perfect for my personal style of driving ont he track.

I have a couple of Wevos, one in the race car and one in street car. I went with lighter springs in the street cars for easier shifting. I would look for springs that are the same diameter and length but have a smaller wire thickness. I would either buy the Wevo spring kit or buy a selection of springs with different wire diameters and try them. Measure the wire thickness of the current springs and go from there. McMaster Carr is a good source for springs as mentioned above.
If you cut the coil you'll have slop in the shifter until it comes in contact with the spring.

I don't race my car but also don't like the 4th to fifth action, so I took that spring out, but was to floppy, so to speak, so I put it back in. Not sure what to try next except cutting a coil?

I've heard rumor that Hayden has switched to lighter weight springs, you might give Wevo a call and ask.

As for me, I also tried the no-spring solution but eventually hit the hardware store and found some lightweight replacements

Yah Wevo sells a lighter spring option. Sounds like a few have tried it or other lighter spring options, I think I will give it a go and see what it feels like.
