Hit a Deer 2Nite with my 73.5.....Chit (Pictures now)

So, I've had my '73 Porsche 911 Targa for 22 years. Never a scratch. Tonight, I hit a deer......I'm coming home from town, it's still daylight......Doing about 40-50 and it comes out of nowhere on my right, running right in front of me......I brake hard and head for the left shoulder..(Had I stayed in my lane, it would have been a direct hit)...The deer jumps as it's gonna hit my right front fender....It's in the air, doing a barrel roll on top of my windshield frame.......As I slide to a stop, I duck my head........As the deer passes thru the passenger compartment, I get kicked in the back of the neck.......Slide to a stop, peer thru the tire smoke...Deer is lying by my left rear wheel....Deer and I make Eye contact......Deer knows I'm pissed, gets up, jumps a fence and is gone..

Not a scratch on the car.....Glad I wasn't on a motorcycle; I almost hit a elk there on a m/c 2 yrs ago......Neck is doing OK.....Thax for asking....Gonna have a drink.

Wow! That'll wake you up. I hit a deer Tuesday with my company car. Knocked all the plastic off the front of a 2007 Crown Vic.

Consider yourself lucky, very lucky actually. That could hae been much worse. I work in insurance claims. In the last 10 years or so I've seen two MC riders killed hitting deer just in the 15 or so counties around here.

A deer ran into me at full run into the driver's front quarter panel. We were driving at night (about 60-65 mph) on a highway divided with a wide grass median. I saw the deer a split second before impact - he flipped up over the car and landed somewhere on the side of the road; never had a chance. We were driving an Acura TL which sustained about $8,500 worth of body work but fortunately, except for the shock we were not hurt.

I hope you bought a lottery ticket right after that!
Very lucky not to get yourself hurt. Count your blessings.

Glad I wasn't on a motorcycle.
About ten years ago, the planets aligned for me, big time. I was offered two weeks of work in Spokane and three weeks in San Jose, with enough time in between for a nice MC tour of BC and a trip down the coast to San Jose. The first day out on my way to Spokane, I came around a bend in Craters of the Moon NP and a deer was laying in the middle of my lane, more than likely JUST hit by the semi that passed me moments before. I stopped and tried to get the animal out of the road, but as soon as I approached, he did his best to do the same on his three remaining good legs, exhaling blood, coughing, and obviously in agony.

Eye contact of a different sort. It still haunts me when I think about it.

Wow, very lucky. A friend of mine hit a dear in a 924S about 20 years ago and the front of the car ended up a mess.
Beautiful car you have also. Are you running a 16" wheel up front and a 15" in back? Just curious.

Cheers.

Glad to hear you're okay Bob!

I wrote off my first Ducati after hitting an emu on my way back from visiting a girlfriend - very scary speed that deer/kangaroos/emus carry... very hard to judge!

Nice car by the way.

I once ran 'over' a deer here in Jersey...I was driving an Eagle Summit (remember those?) that would have been totaled if I had hit it when it was upright. Turned out the car approaching me in the other direction had hit the deer and started it rolling down the road into my lane. I ended up coming to a stop directly on top of the animal (not intentional).

Glad you're OK...most would take a kick to the neck to save their baby...

Well its great news your okay and the car fared well. Its a hats off to the long hoods and the strength of their metal they used back then in manufacturing.

I visited one of those "dent wizards not long ago to see if a very small (nickle sized den) on the door could be easily repaired on my 1973.5T. The guys said, "are you kidding"? He said these cars were built like tanks back then and the metal was way too thick for the use of straightening rods.

Nice to know our long hoods take a beating and keep on ticking. Gotta feel sorry for the dear in this case.

Glad you're okay, and the damage isn't permanent to you or your longhood. Almost the exact same thing happened to me a few years back- the barrel roll over the top of the car('86 Camry) and skid to a stop- I expected to see a pile of baby deer behind me but he was long gone.

You know, the kick in the neck wouldn't have happened in a COUPE;--)))
Just joshing' yah...

Wow, I hit a possum with my old DB4 30 years ago, it demolished my oil cooler, shoved it up and into my fan which shattered the water pump and stuffed it into my radiator.

Glad you and your sweet looking car are OK.
