Rolling car without axles?

Does anyone know if it is okay to roll the car around with the axles removed (engine and trans also), or will it destroy the rear wheel bearings? How about towing the car a couple of blocks?
Thanks.

My opinion is you can do it no problem. The Drive shaft provides no support at all "in/out" for the bearing. It is a very stout bearing.

you need to slip in the outer stubs and tighten the nut or the double inner races will spread and possibly damage the bearing

bearings

As JW said, even moving around the shop can spread them.

The driveshaft must be in for the 85.5-up cars because the outboard stub is part of the axle assembly- it's welded to the CV joint. The earlier cars that have the bolted CVs on both ends can be rolled around without the driveshafts. This is because the stub stays in place when the axle shaft is removed.
