3.2 L 5 Cylinder...

I have an 86 3.2 L motor in my 73. In starting it recently after some period of time of not having been started (maybe 9-10 months), the number 3 cylinder is not firing. I had hoped it was a plug - not. When a plug is put into the wire it fires fine outside the motor. I thought it might be the plug wire or cap shorting when installed so I moved the #5 wire (which is working fine) to # 3 plug and it still did not fire.

The plug does not smell of gas so my assessment is that the fuel injector is not working properly.

Any ideas of what it might be?

Can anyone direct me to some 3.2L information that tells me how to diagnose this problem and how to pull the fuel injector?

What about getting the FI cleaned?

I appreciate any info or direction to threads (my initial search did not get me there quickly but i will also do some more research).

Thanks for any help forth coming.

Reads like a clogged injector or not fully seated injector connection?

You can try BG44K, Seafoam or Techron Plus but if it is not soluable, it will not make a difference.

Swap the injector to another hole. No fire in that hole - problem is injector. That hole now fires - problem is your wiring/connector.

Witchunter up in Seattle, WA area cleans these injectors. Great service. If it won't work at all, they may not getting it working, however, but they can sure optimize the rest of them leaving you to buy just one injector.

I bought and rebuilt a 1986 3.2 that had been sitting for a long time. I had 2 injectors that were sticking. I found advice in a couple of threads and sprayed them with carb cleaner, tapped them a few times while appliyng 12 volts and they freed up. They worked fine afterwards.

I appreciate the input.

To pull the injutor does the whole fuel rail have to come off?

Yes.

The injectors have a cup shaped tip that'll easily hold a solvent. My injectors sat for 2.5 years and all I did was flip intake over, dribble a few drops of brake cleaner on each tip, and repeat a few times to clean the varnish.

She hit on all 6 once I started it up within a split-second.
