Tough car. Real steel. Get proactive, and then go for a drive.

Easy fixed by a competent body shop. I like that light gray color.

What I want to know, is how do I sleep better and lose weight and have more energy?

Carl83911 05-14-2012 12:32 PM

be careful...things happen in threes...

tharbert 05-14-2012 12:47 PM

Bummer! But as lanco says, it's single layer, cosmetic location. You'll have it sorted out in no time.

I know just how you feel. I was backing by car into a single garage bay and had the door open slightly so I could see behind me. CRUNCH went the top edge of the door as it hit the side of the garage.

I truly feel for you; beautiful car. The paint is new so the fix should be pretty straight forward. Soon you won't even recall it.

I'm sorry to see, I cringed when I saw the picture. Like everyone has said, it will be easily fixed and an expensive lesson.

timmy2 05-14-2012 04:01 PM

That really hurts when it happens. I dropped something into my door the first week I had mine. (Fixed it and a wheelwell dent it came with myself)
Unlike others I'd recommend getting it fixed right away so that the exposed metal doesn't have a chance to begin to oxidize and start rusting. It will come back to haunt you after it is fixed if you wait. Especially if you are near some salty air.

But if you let them spin with a semi auto they are less likely to try that business again!

Regarding the car - ouch... even the small ones hurt really bad. I have an Alfa Spider that right around the day it turned 50k miles a metro bus hit it!!! Was otherwise a really nice example... I can't decide whether to repair the thing or sell it off.
On my 60's Ducati single - just after a freshly restored gas tank install and some carb tuning to improve running I leaned the bike against my work bench, took 4 steps away and could hear the new tires squeaking on the floor as it tipped on it's side. Slow motion. In the corner of my eye.
Ouch.

subdewd 05-14-2012 05:05 PM

You think that's bad. My foot slipped off the clutch and I ran the front of my 83 sc into my wife's lexus rx .

Don't beat yourself up too badly.....about 6 months ago I backed my wifes new SRX into my Honda on the driveway.....2 for 1 deal

Alright, a little update. For those of you that missed the first post, my dumb a$$ drove into a concrete overhang with my pristine 69 RSR look. After traveling for a month and cringing everytime I opened the garage door, I decided to do something about it. To rehash:

It allowed me to get reacquainted with some old friends:

After a bit of time with the hammer and dolly:

More time with the H&D, and hit with the sander:

Getting there...still too far in for my taste:

Another hour of H&D, sand, H&D, sand, etc..then a brush on of some high-build primer I had around.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339905169.jpg

Another sand, another primer. I think I can probably get away with zero bondo after this. I've left the primer, and will sand tomorrow and see how she looks.

I'm not sure what the procedure is to get it painted at this point, but at least I can look at it without crying. :)

You send me a PM with your email address, and I send you some info. :)

Looking good, if that paint job is as fresh as it looks for the rest of the car, I'm sure a good shop can match and blend just the quarter panel.

rennch 06-16-2012 08:10 PM

It is...and I still have the original paint and clear. :)

It's always worse when you do it to yourself rather than being hit by someone you don't know.

NY65912 06-17-2012 08:34 AM

Self inflicted wounds really hurt. BUT, thankfully no one was injured in the mishap. Metal, as you have shown, can be fixed.

Oh, BTW, I too have been victim of a concrete wall while backing up.

The repair is looking very good!

Charles Freeborn 06-17-2012 08:38 AM

Oooooh a dent thread. I can add to that:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339950929.jpg
While doing a turnaround with a rented Bobcat in our shared driveway my neighbor clipped my 911 - about a 2 inch crease in the driver door, and matching crease in the quarter panel. Honest mistake - I should have moved it before he got all revved up...
Very sorry about your event, but it too shall pass. Shouldn't be too hard of a repair.

Your "old friends" did a fantastic job!! :)
What dent?

Any chance you will try to paint it yourself?
