tight brake pads

Hi folks,
Today I replaced the rear rotors and pads on my '88 Carrera. All very straightforward, apart from the fact that I had a devil of a time getting the second pad in -- had to tap it in with a hammer. Right now the rotor turns, but not freely.

My question is: will the system correct itself with use and break-in, or did I do something wrong. I know, probably a stupid question, but I tend to be a bit OCD with my automotive projects.

TIA!

Normal , esp with new rotors as well. Drive and bed in (1/2 dozen good hard stops from speed ) and expect full efficacy after around 100-150km driving.

Often you have to compress the pistons back a little to get the new pads in.
How many miles on your calipers? Did you bleed the brakes too?

Bleed the caliper?

If you did not let off some pressure by bleeding or simply "venting" brake fluid then it will be resistant to pushing the caliper pucks in. Put in thicker (new) pads and now they are forced dead against the rotor (which is also new).

Opening the system to retract the pistons not necessary. You can merely install a used pad, then use a wide pry bar betw rotor and pad to push the piston in as far as it goes.

You should buy a brake pad tool that will force the pistons back in to the caliper. Inexpensive and make the job much easier.
