Turn Signal Issue - '70 911

I am experiencing an issue with my turn signal only for the left side where when I turn it on both left & right signal lights blink on the dash, and also the blinked does not shut off then after the turn. I am thinking the lack of shut-off is perhaps an adjustment on the canceling ring on the back of the sterring wheel, but is there any tips for adjusting that??? I have no clue for both dash blinkers going at same time. Any ideas what the cause of that?

You may need to take apart the steering wheel to see if the lever for the auto shut off is still there. Bascally a plastic arm that is tripped by the steering wheel knotch.

No for the double blinker, check the ground it may be dislodged or corroded.

On a 72 there are 2 metal prongs in the turn signal switch assembly that engage a section of metal attached to the rear of the steering wheel as you turn it. You need to remove the steering wheel to get to it. (Careful when you refit, I twist the wheel 90 degres as I push it home to avoid damaging these little metal fingers) Once the wheel is removed you can spray contact cleaner into the turn signal mechanism which may be sticking due to build up of dry lubricant and crud. (mine was) I then carefully lubed the moving parts with a light grease dabbed on with a matchstick. I would not go spraying WD40/CRC type products everywhere or degeaser sprays, any petroleum product on the electrical contacts is going to end badly, they carry significant current.

Next the double flash of the dash lights. If the first flash is good (only the one dash light and nice and bright) and subsequent flashes are both dash lights but dimmer then its either the relay or a dud bulb somewhere. Or both. I replaced all my bulbs with correct 21W rated Hella units replacing 21W Narva made in China types and it cured the double flashing for me. Others have found that the side indicator bulbs in the rear clusters have stopped working, these are little 5W bulbs but the extra load helps the relay operate correctly. Well, it worked for me.

There's no adjustment for the signal cancel. I'll bet the metal prong for the left cancel has broken. That happened on mine and there is no way I could see to repair it. Mine was the right signal and I lived with it turning it off manually until one day it stayed on after I forgot to turn it off, and someone pulled out in front of me from a driveway thinking I was going to turn right into the driveway. I promptly ordered a new turn signal/light switch that day.
As for the blinking problem I would replace the relay. Their cheap and it's easy to replace after you pull the left side fuel gauge.

Before you do anything check the grounds on the front light housings. Mine worked perfectly until a couple of weekends ago, then when indicating right I would get the dim 'double flash' on the dash, looking at the RHS bulb itself it would flash but very dimly, the LHS would be nice and bright. Disconnected the grounds on both sides, sanded them a little (on the indicator housing) and cleaned the connectors and now they both work perfectly, no more double flash. Don't replace relays until you try this.
