Formula 1 United States Grand Prix

This is a bit off-topic, but still good to see interest in road courses. Tickets go on sale on June 10 to the Circuit of the Americas Circuit for the upcoming Formula 1 race in Austin, TX in November.

"The track is designed by well known German architect and circuit designer Hermann Tilke. The circuit length is 5.5 kilometers and the driving direction is counterclockwise. A total of 20 corners with 9 right turns and 11 left turns. The track width is 11.9 -15.9 meters and the estimated top speed is 320 km/h. The elevation change of 40.5 meters makes the course not only scenic, but also extremely challenging and very exciting for the spectators."

Here's the website Circuit of The Americas - Home of the F1 US Grand Prix | Nov. 16-18, 2012 | Austin TX

Hi-Everyone is hoping for the best for this track to succeed. There is a lot of info on another thread "Austin F1" I think. Lots of notes on tickets and Hotels and such. Lots of people here favour road courses like the F1 circus. Should be at least 2 US races to go along with the 1 Canadian race. IMO

I wanted to until I saw the prices/buy in for "your" seat. Considering I went to USGP 2000/2001 both for bout a grand with air/hotel/rental.....I was just plain shocked. Thanks Bernie as we'll make your daughter's house payment over there on Spelling Drive.... I think the closer was the parking situation too.

I've been a big F1 fan since I went to the USGP at Watkins Glen in 1968, but after seeing the prices for tickets and parking for this modern edition, I'm gonna skip it. Back then we drove my buddy Jerry's big green Toronado up from Pennsylvania, camped at the track (avoiding The Bog), slept in the car, cooked on a grille, drank Rolling Rock, and enjoyed an evening walk through the Kendall Tech Center, where we watched the poor overworked mechs trying to make the cars better. Still have photos of Andretti driving into the track in a rental Ford and Vic Elford looking a bit glum in some uncompetitive Cooper-Maserati (or something). Yes, those were The Old Daze!

Totally psyched about this...already have press passes to the race and a few events. Can not wait to go. I am still pissed about being in Monaco 1 week AFTER the F1 race due to my friends making some last minute travel changes. I could have killed them but none of them cared about F1.

I've been F1 fan since I was a boy. My oldest son has followed suit. I purchased tickets this afternoon for the two of us in the upper rows of the grandstand at turn 12 (I think they're the best seats for the race). Kinda' spendy--but I probably won't do it again.
A month ago I checked hotels for the race weekend--Marriott's that are usually $119/night are $550(!!). I booked rooms in San Antonio an hour away at the normal rates. Did I mention I probably won't do this again?
I have been to a live F1 race. Back in the 80's I got press credentials for the first Las Vegas GP. Had a great time seeing and talking to some of my F1 heros as well as some of the writers of the time.
