Where is the easiest place to pull power for an hour meter (engine running only)?
I have a small digital hour meter with memory that I'd like to log run time on for my engine. Where is the easiest place to pull power for it when the engine is running? It would be nice if it was engine only and not just ignition "on".
The meter just needs +12v constant supply to it when engine running. Thanks

How much time do you really plan on having the ignition turned on without the car running?

On my race car, I have an hour meter wired up so that it only runs when the engine is at 3000 RPM or above. As far as I am concerned, idling doesn't really count.

I suppose you're right. To winders point, for me, idling does count sitting in traffic in the heat of summer. So I do want to log that as part of the on time.

Put it on the fuel pump. That only is engaged through stage 2 of the DME relay when the engine is running. crank sensor tells the DME that the engine is cranking before the fuel pump is activated.

Activate a relay with the signal from the oil pressure light switch. Use the relay output to run the meter.
