Not the end of the world.... but also not exactly the best day today.

I should have known it better and should not have driven into Manhattan. Crappy roads, pot holes the size to easily classify as anti-tank barriers, vibrations and shocks non stop, cab and limo drivers who own the road but no driver's license.

My reliable 911T held up with that pretty good... she is tough. Open windows, fresh summer air in the cabin, addictive engine sound in tunnels and under the UN building on the half enclosed FDR... what a joy.

And then came the stop sign, a clonking sound and something anyone on this forum could easily identify in seconds as a headlamp hovering over the tarmac.

The thread for the lamp apparently caught rust, the heavy vibrations did their part and off it flew. Now I have a housing with custom scratches and a lens that will have every deer die with a sparkle in an eye instead of the usual halo.

So now the question... shall I just replace the thread by welding in a new one or would you have any other suggestions to better fix the headlight?

sorry for your bad luck, but a riv-nut for the threads and a set of paintable trim rings for the H-4s, and everything will be alright.

Any idea if Chrome rings are readily available somewhere. Our host has the primer-version, mine are chromed. Or am I right to think that I need to get a primer version and then send it off to the Chrome shop?

The primer ring goes over the chrome ring I believe. I have never seen the chrome ring separate new.

Look for the chrome ring on ebay or even here with someone breaking a car.

The h4 lens is available. the part number is 911 631 927 00 $34.50 here on Pelican.

I welded nuts on to replace the little tab. But that was only after losing one. I now also keep the light zip-tied to the fender -- it all fits inside the bucket -- as insurance.

I believe this is the part number for just the chrome ring with adjuster screws:
911.631.933.00

If they're available, it's probably cheaper than buying some trim rings and having them painted to match your car.

I have seen people weld a nut onto the back of the tab, as long as the tab is not too rusty. Otherwise, it's probably going to be a new tab.

I didn't know you could get replacement H4 lenses until I saw this thread, so it helped me out too.

Can't tell from the pic- the seal is in the way but it looks like the Curved lip of the bucket has rusted away.
