Thread size and pitch for oil temperature and pressure sensors

Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying a Stack Cluster, and I need to know what size these ports are to get the proper sensor or adapters.

Thanks!
Amir

What year is your engine?

On my '79 and '87 the Oil temp sensor port in the case is M14 x 1.5 That's an easy one to find- AutoMeter makes a M14 x 1.5 to 1/8 NPT. I'd confirm what size/pitch your sensors are going to be with the Stack dash. Take a look and you'll see their sensors come in various thread sizes

STACK Accessories & Spare Parts

Oil pressure can be pulled from two places.

1. You can remove the big fat sending unit on the cam supply line and plumb into the sender's mounting block. I have to double check but I believe that location is M10 x 1.0 But that location requires you to run more wire. Maybe just leave the sending unit in place and do #2?

2. You can use the oil pressure warning light location on top of the engine case near the thermostat. That is also M10 x 1.0

Since your Stack dash provides the warning ability in the dash unit itself, you no longer need to use that pesky, leak-prone, low oil pressure idiot light switch anyway! You can also remove that adapter that is threaded into the case for the warning light switch and replace it with a M18 x 1.5 to 1/8 NPT adapter. JB Racing makes one of these

JB Racing - Porsche Engine Components It's part number 131-035

Note that some sensors are sensitive to vibration and they suggest you isolate them from the engine.

Sorry for leaving out such vital info, but it's a 2.7 from a '76

btw KTL thanks so much for your help. Buying stuff from you is easy, and you're super helpful. People like you are why I love Pelican lol.

I purchased an m14x1.5 for the temp since I believe it is the same for the 2.7. I also purchased an M18x1.5. Where is the location of the " pesky, leak-prone, low oil pressure idiot light switch" on the case?

Glad to help Amir. I get tons of information from this forum so I try to give it back where I can.

The pesky idiot light switch looks alot like the temperature sender on the engine. It's the thing right next to the thermostat on top of the engine. Here's picture of how my engine was previously tapped there to get oil pressure for a warning light (left side of the tee) and the mechanical oil pressure gauge supply line (right side)

That spot where the tee goes into the hex adapter on the case is where the pesky oil light switch normally resides. Somebody re-tapped the adapter to connect the tee. So the location that is M18 x 1.5 is the case itself. The top of the hex adapter is M10 x 1.0 if I recall correctly.

Note that brass tees with a long stem like that are a bad idea. The brass fatigues over time and can break. The mess is pretty big from what i'm told. I replaced that brass setup with a M18x1.5 to AN-6 adapter from Fragola.
