Window switch woes!
Replaced my pass. side window switch today, window works great from that switch but not at all from the drivers side switch. Double checked my little diagram befor removing the connections but no luck. Also checked the Bently manual, all was correct but still the window will not operate from the drivers side switch. Has anyone had this problem or any ideas?

open the driver side door and look toward the fueling port. there are two bulkhead connectors. I had an issue with my passenger side and the connector turned out to be the culprit. YMMV

Hi Lenny:
Let us know what you find. I have the opposite problem in my car. Passenger window only opens with switch on driver's side. Swapped switches between doors, and still passenger side doesn't work. I'm curious where the "connectors" are, and how to access them. Good luck!

Hey gents I think I found the problem, the wiring that goes through the door into the car appears to have worn away the protective tubing and into the wires, when I move the wires where the door hinges to the body the window works briefly. Now I need to figure out the proper fix.

Lenny, thanks for the info. I have a similar issue with my window switches.
I'm going to double check that connection too. Keep us posted on your findings! |

If you remove the lower hinge bolts and support the door with a padded floorjack, you can get to the wires to pull them. I have an early diagram that works for 911SC and early Carrera if you suspect that you wired them incorrectly. I think later 911s ('86-89?) had different wire colors.

Hey Lenny,
I recently had a similar issue with a bad wire in the loom that runs between the door and the body panel. After trying several options, I eventually had to remove the door from its hinges to make the necessary repairs. If you need to remove the door too, make sure you mark your screw holes and hinges before you remove the door, it will save you a lot of trouble when you need to realign the door. Also, make note of the hinge shims during removal. Good luck.

if you are going to try this on your own get some scrap 2x4 pieces first and make a little jig. put it on a jack and it will make your life so much easier.

Just went through a similar situation...what a PITA. In my case I eventually determined there was a broken wire in the harness that goes from the "plug" just visible at the upper front edge of the door and the switch. I decided to repair the broken wire rather than try and get the whole thing out and replaced. Bentley also has good diagrams on this issue. Keep in mind the switches are complete POS. Brand NEW they often fail...makes resolving window issues confusing but I actually to where I can also test the switches!
