Clear coat RSR Rota Fuchs for track use?
I purchased 17" Rota Fuchs for track use and have been waffling whether to clear coat or not to protect the finish. The silver paint has a textured finish and I think brake dust will find its way into the pores.
Anyone clear coated them or using them on track without adverse effects? i.e. easy to keep clean without clear coat? I'm concerned if the clear coat turned yellow over time? BTW, I needed an 8mm spacer to clear Big Red brakes, I think 5-6mm would work but I had 8mm in my garage. The fronts were just kissing the struts but it could be due to the tire size/profile, 225 Conti slick is about 15mm wider than 225 MPSC. ![]()

Yes, they are a major PIA to clean. I am having mine done as soon as it's time for new rubber.

i have a clear coated set of BBS's on my racecar and with the elevated temps of track duty it's peeling off at a high rate. from the first time they were used no less. so heed that the peeling may look worse than the dirt..

I tend to agree with car 311.
My fuchs get extremely hot after 30 minute sessions. I don't think a clear coat will last long. Just clean them after use. Tinker |

I have Weidman RSR finished wheels (finish is really rough), and though it's not anywhere near as much brake dust as with track use, they clean up fairly easily. Just do it after every track session when you get home. Use just regular old Ivory dish soap or if you want to get fancy or they are especially grungy, use some P21s. That stuff works really well.
