No there are two prong and three prong tops. There was also a change in the latch system after 89 I think. The two and three prong tops can be interchanged but you need the proper latch to work on your car. I'm 95% sure 74 through 89 tops will work one year to the next. It's possible earlier tops will work also. Not sure what happens with softies or the short wheel base cars.

Search the threads of carsinc. He is THE expert on targa tops. I remember a thread listing the differences and years. I do know that 74-89 tops are not all the same. I have an 88 and my son has an 85 and the tops are not the same.

I've not heard of one being adapted to a different style. Dan at carsinc would be the one to ask. carsincnj.com.

Only reason I knew anything is because I bought the Porsche windshield seal and it is the 964 seal. Porsche decided to only offer the 964 seal and the later 3.2's and 74-85's have to be cut back with a razor to make them fit. Dan has the correct fitting seals. Also, Dan can probably sell you (86 - ssinit) a back-up top. They are not give-aways though. I have been to his shop in NJ once during a business trip. He has an eclectic gathering of Porsche stuff there. I just hung out for an hour and watched him work and sniffed around. He is a straight shooter and his work is outstanding. He can talk some fun stuff if you get him on the right topic. I like the dude. |

Thanks JB but that top is not the same. Great pic though. Mine does not have that hook in the front just the latch. Thanks again for the info. Saw 1 on eBay with a price just under $2000. Is that an average price? New to this just bought the car last year.

Well, I'd call Dan and see what he want's for a core, then call Parts Heaven, LA Parts Dismantler and dC Automotive to compare.
Maybe he'd take the one on the classifieds as a core.....dunno. I'm a cabriolet guy.
