Kurt!

That is looking great. Remember to post pics of the front, too. Thanks.

Hey - How'd you get those turbo flares on so quickly? I've got a good comeback for all the clown smack.... just can't think of it right now.

Looks good so far!

I finally figured out why nobody could send me messages (thanks Wayne) - the sent box is empty, so whatever you were gonna send - send away!

Porsche Crest spoiler

I recently purchased a spoiler from Karl Lawley owner of Fiberwerks. The spoiler is awesome looking, lightweight, and the craftsmenship is excellent. So far I have mated for fit and confident I can perform the mounting task.

I don't think one needs to use the crush sleeve/piston style bumper to mount ones spoiler unless the spoiler is not equiped with L-brackets; in that case I am not sure what I would do. With the Fiberwerks spoiler a plate is utilized to connect the spoiler to the car. The plate is mounted to where the bracket that holds the bumper piston was formerly located.

The piston style bumpers must weigh 3 pounds at the least.

I will try to post some pictures here soon to share with you guys.

Hey Kurt -
Did you notice your ride height change when the new bumpers were mounted? I had to lower my SC to compensate. ALL the crap was taken off - bumpers, shocks, brackets, everything. Lost about 100 pounds.

Never thought about that, but it does make sense. I may have to have it lowered. Couldn't lower rear before because of if spacers (caused rubbing). With them gone, I can.

More Front bumper painting is needed as you can still see a hint of gray.

Now, lesson number one, USE WHITE PRIMER. Otherwise, it's hard to cover...I don't know why I used gray primer again. Stupid..the lighter primer makes a lot of sense. Anyway, unless you put on coat after coat, the color of the primer either brightened or deadens your new color.

There is also a good tip of, even after you put a few coats, if you see it's too dark, then put a thin layer of White primer on top of it again, and put another coat to brighten it rather than put several more layers on top of the older, darkened stuff, because white primer can be covered very quickly.

Knowing this, the front needs some more coats and the clear coat to be buffed and possibly 2000 grit sanded, but you can at least see how these look.

Another trick is to primer, paint, and mount and then do all of your touch up with them on the car. It's just too hard to get them on and off without making gouges in the paint.

Looks cool!

Did you paint it yourself? How did you do it?

Can you notice any difference in the way the car drives?

Seems everybody knows Peter here around the area. I got a IROC front and rear bumpers and a Carrera tail base from him a year ago. Haven't put them on yet. BTW, Peter is a nice guy and his price is very reasonable.
Questions for Kurt and Thom. Kurt, are you gonna install the license plate light? Thom, do these bumpers fit well? Do I need any trimming? There are two kind of IROC front out there. One with splitter, one w/o. Is there any different in term of ground effect along with a rear tail?
Great job, Kurt and Thom! Very nice cars!

Yeah, doing paint myself. You can make it look dead on IF You take the time. But it's a lot of time.

I've been looking at different car lights. I will not use the porsche ones because they won't work. They won't shine in the right direction. I'm shopping around for something...

The fit is very good. I didn't have to do any grinding or sanding. It's just a b@tch to get them on by yourself. I you have a buddy handy, then it'd be cake. I'm amazed at how well they do fit. Even the screw holes he had lined up without much trouble at all.

The pep is definitely there. I lost 46 lbs in the rear and 26 lbs in the front.

Mainly, it makes it look sportier And also, when I do repaint it, I'm going to have a lot less to take off the car. Just pop out the lights all around, take off the top and the insides of the mirrors, and off we go to the paint shop. Before, I mean, even removing the bellows is a complete hassle. Loosening the panels near the oil tank totally blows (so you can take ot the rubber strips), you have the 3 bolts holding on the rear rubber bumpers and bla bla bla...it took me dang near 12 hours to put everything back on because when you put all that stuff on, you can't just line it up and shove it in the holes without being really careful about the surrounding paint. And also, the front rubber strip has plastic doohickeys that hold it on and those broke of course. The bellows are expensive, but their bolt heads are corroded, and I think I've complained enough about this part

Kurt, how's the quality of the fiberglass spoilers? I've heard stories where people had to spend hours refinishing and sanding their fiberglass parts to fit properly.

Good quality--Excellent if you consider the price! (given above somewhere).

The ruf front and iroc rear I got from them bolted right on without any reworking. You just have to drill the holes and mount. Went in amazingly easily. You line it up, get a drill under, and drill. Because you want them to line up with the fender openings and make a continuous line. This is pretty easy--except on the oil tank side in the rear.

You'll need a dremel though if you do a front. My parking lights stuck out a bit, so I had to grind down 1/2" here 1/2" there (doesn't take long, few minutes) drill the holes and mount. It took me around 4 or 5 hours on Friday to remove my entire front bumper assembly and put on my RUF bumper and put in all the lights and stuff. Included, removing the washer tank for a few items, disabling the head light squirters (which I will not put back on) and it includes, coffee, smokes, quiet reflection, phone calls etc. If you really stick with it, it'll get done sooner. It's a fun work cause all you can think about is how f'ing radical it's going to look when you're done, as opposed to the CV joint I did this weekend, which had me nearly in tears a few times as I got grease in my mouth, ears, nose, eyes and had no idea if I'd be in biz when it was finished or not.

The rear takes a bit longer because there's more to take off, and also because it's a real b!tch to get a drill or ratchet up under there on the oil tank side. And you have to make some custom holders in the back...i did remove the bumper shocks as well, so this was required. Front is a cinch.

Thanks for your quick reply, Kurt. I have one more question, is there a person that you know from Rennspeed that I can talk to?

$450 front, $250 rear.

Call the number given on page and like Jack olsen said, talk to Peter. I don't know if there's anyone else or if it's just his business--

I should also add though, I had to put a little bit of bondo in places here and there where it had chipped for whatever reason. Again, to me this is minimal for the price. Even more expensive stuff I had gotten from Performance Products needed this kind of thing. With fiberglass, there's always little nicks and stuff to take care of. What you don't want is the thing not to fit right and line up for some reason..then you're screwed, but this is not a problem I had in the least.

Jeff,

I'm going to follow Kurts lead and get the same front and rear. (Kurt needs a commission I reckon from Rennspeed.)

I emailed Peter and he was back to me with prices and stacks of pictures within two days.

If you intend to order from them, let me know. We may be able to get the items shipped at the same time - maybe some savings ordering and shipping together.

Cheers
Mark

Thank you for your invitation, but I have to decline at this moment, trying to save some money to purchase a set of wheels. Do you have any suggestions as to which tire/wheel shop I should inquire about.

Once you've received and installed the bumpers, do let us know, especially the cost of shipping to HK.

I've not ruled out installing any spoilers on my car, particularly a ducktail on my C4. Perhaps, my next project.
