Looks like I'll be getting these: widebody, question
Apparently these are done. I'm going to paint them and mount them and dump my other stuff (or actually, save the OEM parts and ...hell, someone may want that front spoiler)
Anyway, do I put these OVER the bumpers and just remove the rubber, or do they mount directly to the shock absorbers? Regardless of whether these will look better or worse then OEM, I am going with it based on weight alone and the stupid bellows. I'm tired of the bellows, rubber, bla bla bla look. The 964 is not perfect by any means, but one thing that is undeniable is the purity of the color as you lose the rubber. ![]() ![]() I'm told they are made and waiting for me...

Nice bumpers. Do I recognize Peter's garage door in the background? He's not exactly creative with his photography is he?

He's right. It's peter. Any good? Doesn't much matter. if you price these kinds of things at performance products, it's damn near double the cost. If they're ANYTHING close to that, I can do any remaining fiberglass work myself. I've cracked and repaired my front spoiler 4 or 5 times...and that's no exaggeration. Jesus, I could almost make those myself probably.
Here's the website. http://www.wholesaler-usa.com/rennspeed/ 450 and 250 for front and rear respectively.

Woo Hoo!
Okay, I just drove down to duarte and picked these up and crammed them in the 911. (needed to take top down to work them in) Turns out, Peter's a very cool guy--the parts are extremely light. When I say light, I mean light. Each piece weighs less than just one of the rubber rear bumpers, and you take not only the rubber off, you take the entire bumpers off when you fit these on. The workmanship looks great was well. Cannot wait to put these on. I won't know for sure, but it seems as though I'll be losing in the year about 50 lbs depending on how much the bumpers weight (I know the rubber thingies weigh 7 lbs each) In the front, about the same, maybe 20 to 30 lbs. Total weight loss of 70 lbs minimally...this will bring the weight of my car down to a little less than 2,450 lbs if the scale accurately weighed it before. This means, ...well, I'm just bouncing up and down. These things ROCK. Picts posted after completion.

I've not weighed the bumpers, but I have had them off a few times, and those sucker are really heavy. Particularly the rear.
I'd agree that you will enjoy at least a 70 lb weight savings. How do you mount those? If you are going to somehow mount them directly to the bumper shocks, why not replace the bumper shocks with wood or hollow pipe or something? Save even more weight, and without the stock bumpers the shocks are probably worthless anyways. Should look really cool! |

Do they have studs embedded in them? If so, you can do something like this http://vintagebus.com/howto/bumper/ - particularly the pix close to the bottom. I have Peter's RSR front bumper.
My rear bumper does not have studs embedded, so it goes on with a bunch of screws and speedclips. Kind of a PITA to get it installed. I like the front that you bought better than mine. I'm tempted to make up a second set of brackets, and use the RSR bumper on the track and something like yours for the street. Once I finish getting everything set up, I'll be able to swap in ~5 minutes. Right now I can swap in about 10 seconds ![]()

I really like those bumpers, but I have yet to see an aftermarket version in the front that didn't have a shelf (top of bumper) in front of the hood that looked deep enough to sit on.

The rear does have studs. Not sure about the front. It's sitting in my passenger seat right now, so I'll know when I drive home from work.
Thanks for the advice Thom...It does look like a fairly straight forward install for sure. Interesting JimT...well, I dont' know how much those bumpers shocks weigh, but we'll see how the install goes. If they're a damn good fit, I'll just slap em on them. It already rides pretty light since i removed the AC, back seats, etc, and I imagine this thing is going to feel even lighter and faster after this.

The Ruf CTR Front Bumper listed on that site has a price of $CALL.
![]() How much, Kurt? That's the front bumper I want, too.

YMMV, but in my case, the bumper shocks were too long, even when trying to use fronts.
Bumper shocks are *heavy*! My replacements are fairly light, and if I was set up to weld aluminum I could go one better. The other cool thing about my telescoping setup is it makes the cut&test cycle *very* fast! Quote:

Hey Kurt - If those are widebody bumpers (the rear does look like a widebody) they won't fit your Carrera flares. You know that, right?

Motion, you are just beggin' for a wedgie ain't ya?
You kick back with that clown hair of yours, and you heckle a man like me. Hey man, I'm just watchin' the show. Go climb into your little circus car with all of the other clowns sporting a big smile and tooting your horn-nose. You know what though, if I see you driving around that little clown car with your friends, and all your hairdos jostling and blowing carefree in the wind, all of you smiling and happy, making children and adults alike laugh; I'm gonna smoke it. I'm gonna whiz by and rev my engine at that little clown car and smoke it. I'm gonna follow it to a light, let it take off a bit, catch up and smoke it again. ..And then wave out the window speeding off, and you'll see a sign that says "Clown cars smoked daily" on the back. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Okay, onto the reality of it I don't know if those are the ones picture. I have a white one and a black one, I assume they are the same ones in the pic. . I did tell him the car type, and it's supposed to be for a non-turbo. It certainly looks non-turbo, but I didn't line it up on the car yet. If it's a turbo, that just means I need to get flares to fit my bumpers right? Then I'll need to get wheels to fit my flares, and ultimately, a 3.3 turbo engine to cap it off ![]() The weights were: 4.5 lbs for the front and 5.5 lbs for the rear.

When you are considering what to do about those bumper shocks, note that the euro cars came without them. They have crush tubes instead. While I've never removed mine, I'm sure they're lighter then the shock type.

I too recognize Peter's garage door from pics he sent me a few weeks ago. I ordered IROC bumpers and tail and a set of turbo flares. I can' wait to get them on. The rest of the car is pretty much done except for the roll cage which had a 6 week lead time. (I digress)
Peter was great to talk to on the phone. He gave me a lot of great advice and insisted that I call him if I had any installation problems. His prices were very competitive. He suggested either attaching the bumpers to the stock shocks or replacing the stock shocks with a replacement fabricated from Aluminum. He also told me that the bumpers are so light that they can be attached to the quarter panels and will not sag in the middle. Rennspeed has found a permanent place in my favorites folder. ![]()

Yup, I'm very happy with the quality of these after examining them. And they're light as feathers. I hadn't considered the option of directly attaching them to the chassis...and I'll go ahead and take the shocks off and weigh em then.

Just some progress.
Entire weight of rear bumper assembly including shocks is 46 lbs. Dremeling out the cutouts. Dremels rule plain and simple. Picture taken before steps to reduce sagging. It is attached via the rear bars that held the old sides on. This is the outer one it is also bolted below the Reflector and to the fenders [/img] Primered install. Want to fit it before I spray it. I'll spray it myself. The tail looks good...used www.paintscratch.com paints which are great for making a damn near perfect job ![]()
