Helpwith clutch issue - appreciate comments please
86 911 cab - this car is fairly new to me - I have a 944 same year with hydraulic clutch (new) that is very easy to depress clutch pedal compared to the 911. Is it just the difference between the mechanical vs. hydraulic or what are possible issues causing this stiffness? The 911 has 68,000 and records indicate clutch was replaced at 55,000. I t runs and shifts fine with no indications of worn out clutch. thanks

a worn helper (omega) spring can make the pedal heavy. look at the host site tech info article about adjusting clutch so you can see what I'm talking about.

a new clutch cable works wonders, sometimes.

My 84 Carrera does not require significant force to operate. If you can find another 84-86 car and compare would be worth it.
But I agree with prior posters about checking adjustment and cable. When I bought my car 6 years ago the clutch cable and adjustments where way out of wack. I used this article to adjust: Pelican Technical Article: Clutch Adjustment - 911 (1965-86) - 930 Turbo (1975-86) Procedure is from our host.

As others have said, do check on spring and cable, however, the clutch on my '78 (new cable and omega spring) does require (slightly) more initial force than the clutch on my 951 did.

My 80' is a bit tougher than my 951, but easier than my 2012 BMW, go figure? I do have a brand new cable, spring and clutch though.

You might also think about rebuilding your pedal cluster; the old bushings might be binding.

thanks guys for all input
will start with checking out helper spring - there does seem to some squeaks/binding noises when depressing pedal so cluster may also be issue. gotta take this to somebody good - not something I'd get into myself.
