Hey! When did they do that??...
![]() ![]() I went to buff out the deck lid on an '88 Cab today and found that I couldn't remove the "Carrera"- bummer!!... all my other 911s have been '79 and older.... So, I surmise the only way to remove it is to dissolve the adhesive with some 3M Adhesive Remover, buff the lid, and reinstall.... Anybody have any hints on what adhesive to use, etc? and then there is the alignment in the proper position. Nothing is ever simple....... BTW, if none of you have tried 3Ms 1500 grit dry sanding disc's, followed by their 3000 grit diamond pad (lubed with water from a spray bottle..), then buff- it works great. 3M has several how-to's on you-tube. No affiliation with me- just great stuff that works. Except when you get come up short with glue on logos ![]() thanks to all for the corporate knowledge base..... Tim |

My SC had the posts and my 85 Carrera was a stick on job. My guess was the change occurred when the Carrera was introduced.

I believe you can cut through the old adhesive by sawing it with dental floss. Use Goo Gone to remove the rest. Re mount with double sided sticky tape.

When I repainted, I tried to resurrect the old Carrera script on my '85 for reuse. It was relatively easy to remove the gum from the back with solvent (shoot, I was sanding it out anyway), but time consuming as heck to trim new double-sided tape around the lettering so none would show. Given that the black plastic had oxidized to where it was kinda dodgy looking to put back on against shinynew clearcoat, I opted to bite the bullet and order a new one. Others may have had a simpler time with it, but after futzing with it for an hour and getting bush-league results, it was money well spent... $40-some bucks from our host, as I recall.

A 'little' heat from a heat gun helps. On re-install consider a tube of silicon instead of 2x tape...

I used the dental floss trick on a 964 lid I have. Worked pretty good.

OMG SPORTS FANS!! It's PLASTIC!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() We used Goo-Gone as a solvent since I already had some in a squeeze bottle... raised the deck lid so that the Carrera logo would be fairly level, and then squirted the Goo-Gone around it. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then used the dental floss trick to 'saw' thru the adhesive..... The damn logo is PLASTIC!- what a crock! First, no mounting pins/screw nuts, and then no metal logo! Is nothing sacred anymore? ![]() For those with faded logos- metal or plastic, try using SEM paint's satin "Trim Black" - awesome stuff - at your auto paint store. It is self etching, so for the metal logos, you can just spray it on. For the new fangled, el cheapo plastic logos, you will have to first shoot it with SEM's Plastic Adhesion Enhanser- a primer if you will for any plastic. Great for engine grills as well.... I have some 3M double stick auto trim adhesive tape to cut and paste the logo back on the engine lid.... So HEY! When did they start using the plastic stick on Corvette quality logos on Porsche 911s? What will they give us next? Water Pumpers? ![]() Tim |

on the good side, there about 30 bucks for new ones with the tape. I would just leave it off, everyone knows it's a 911

Or, it could be fun to throw all of the concour groupies a curve ball- a friend once had a '77 "Turbo Carrera"- while in Germany on a business trip, I almost bought him the European version for the same Turbo, which read "Turbo Carrera 3.0".....
I now own that 930. The same friend, a race engine builder, just finished a $40+k 6 banger race engine for a car that reads "912"...... Tim |

There is a special emblem tape that is used by body shops.. A local body shop gave me a piece(they buy it in rolls).. Works great, no messy residues like doubled-sided tape..

Ordered some parts today from Jason, extension 233, at Pelican. Told him about this logo issue and thread, and he confirmed Sal scarcellar's question. Starting with the '84 Carreras, Porsche went economical on us, and started the onslaught of stick on logos..... I don't recall any reductions in prices though....
