Oh well, no big deal. But that's easy for me to say, I don't expect to buy a NEW Porsche anyway, I prefer the older air-cooled variety.

I think the problem here is that Audi is already winning races in LMP1 and Porsche hasn't had a prototype racer since the RS Spyder. So I just hope that VW doesn't stiffle Porsche only to push forward its old tried and tested Audi racers. Hopefully Ferdinand Piech will give Porsche a new killer prototype in the spirit of the marquee, but it's kinda uncertain.

VW sets high goals for Porsche

VW will sell 200,000 units for Porsche by 2016. Germans are excellent marketeers, so no doubt they will achieve their expectations...

Car companies are made by men. Even branding is not the big deal. ..let alone the name of the parent company.

That is, Even if VW Dropped the Porsche name (they won't) they could still make the same type of car. (or better)

Ha! My wife had a Dasher she sold to my brother when he was in college. Last anyone saw of the car was it flying through the air into a huge bonfire. A fitting end to such a (not so) fine automobile. However, we have owned about 10 VWs since... And all have been better. (Except for our 1990 Passat. It was the worst car I've ever owned..)

Tyota has something in their p1 cars, if they can get the reliability and their act together, they will be THE cars to beat next year unless AUDI can stay strong, which they are obviously. I doubt VW willl squelch that, but I do see some new Porsche P2 cars soon, and very competetive ones as well.

Is this a bad thing? Better in VW's group than any other.

Had a very similar experience with my first car, an Audi 5000s. Spent thousands on wheel bearing issues and control arm bushings which were never fixed properly in my American car small town. Then the block was cracked putting on a block heater by the same guys. In the end, with a bad transmission it was sold for $250 and next time I saw it was on the back of a tow truck driving by when my whole family was eating breakfast at a Denney's. We roared with laughter. I kinda liked it still

Somebody correct me here, but isn't there some German law that Porsche (or any private group) couldn't own majority share of VW? ...and yet here we have Peich (Porsche) in control of VW . . .having VW buy his family business?

I'm a bit fuzzy on this, but that's how I read it all.

Why not? We've already got Porsche hybrids!

Perhaps I'm just a hopeless optimist, it would be great if this led to a sub 50k two door enthusiasts P car.

But if I'm really going the optimist route, why not buy out HRT and bring Porsche power back into F1.

This is bad news. Porsche might even start building SUV's now.
