1973 Monterey PCA Parade - long youtube video w/my '66 slate gray 911 and '65 #300278

I just converted a 26 minute 8mm video of the 1973 Monterey Parade to a .mpg and uploaded it to YouTube...I thought you might enjoy it. You can mute the lame '60s surfer music.

It was given to me by the previous owner of my slate gray/red interior '66 911 (here's the back story and photos) and '65 911 #300278 that I recently sold. He also gave me the complete Monterey Parade guest kit with stickers, programs, tickets, etc. Some video highlights:
  • 0:34 '65 911 #300278 makes an appearance
  • 4:00 I think the movie switches to a different Parade...possibly 1977 in San Diego...you can see several impact bumper cars which I don't think were around that early in 1973. The previous owner of my cars said he attended and filmed both.
  • 4:54 What is that wide body whale tail beast?
  • 8:18-8:54 my slate gray 911 filmed from inside '65 911 #300278 (four button dash) driving to Monterey
  • 9:19 My slate gray 911 driving by
  • 10:09 Monterey golf course display
  • 16:06 concours awards show...who is the guy in the grey hat?
  • 21:12 to 23:49 my slate gray 911 lapping Laguna Seca. Looks like he spins it once!
  • 25:45 Nice 360 spin and recover by someone at Laguna Seca!

I know a lot of you fondly remember this PCA Parade...do you see yourself or people/cars you know?

I believe the gentleman in the gray hat and the lady next to him is Ferry Porsche and his wife Dorothea. The family has always joined PCA at the Parade. This year, two of Ferry and Dorothea's sons will be at Salt Lake City-Wolfgang and Hans Peter.

Very cool video, btw.

Glad you are enjoying it. Wow...would have been awesome to get an award from Ferry himself!

I posted it over on the Early S registry too...thanks boxster03.

Great video. I love the period music.....brings back memories.

It's neat to see all those brand new 914's.

Hey Jay,

Thanks for posting up this great video. Very cool to see my '71S (around 13:00 min) on the Pebble Beach grass in color.

'Patrick' didn't make the movie on the award stand though.

So you got an award from Ferry himself? What a great time to be into Porsches...still must have felt like a small family of enthusiasts back then.

Hi Jay,

The original owner received the award, second in Class, at Pebble Beach from Ferry. The owner and his family drove the 911 all the way from central IL to the Parade and entered every event. Very few trailer cars in those days. Much different from today.

PS if you look the Garage link you will see a photo from the following year at the Pocono Parade where they won first in class, again receiving his award from Ferry. Since owning the car I have become quite good friends with he and his wife. They are on their way to the Salt Lake Parade right now in their 997.

Here's a great older thread about the 1973 Parade with more photos and lots of discussion about the event: 1973 Porsche Parade Monterey photos

Cool history on your car Brian!
