Moving the coil

Anyone done this before?
I want to move the coil from its current place on the fan shroud to behind the plastic cover that hides the electrical stuff on the left hand side of the engine bay. Why? De-clutter the engine bay a bit more and also reduce the chance of coil failure by putting it somewhere with less vibration and heat. Accept this as my rationale and tell me the challenges please. The main/king lead is easy but the other wires.........?

Thank you

Ian

I did this. I just had to buy a longer coil wire. I use an MSD so not sure about the other stock wires.

I have a twin plug/MSD unit. I have one coil in the stock location and the other behind that little panel. No problems.

Thanks Brad, Kent,
Was it easy to unpick the smaller wires from the loom to enable them to reach the new location?

I have an MSD 6AL under the driver's seat and placed the coil where the Bosch unit would have been. The nuts in the panel line up nicely with the original coil holding bracket so I did not have to do any fabrication to make it fit. I bought Clewitt Engineering wires and they just made a longer coil wire for me per my length instructions.

Regarding your question about unpicking the wires from the loom, I remember running new wires from the MSD box for the coil from the unit under the seat so I essentially bypassed the factory wires.

Are you going to keep the CDI box in the original location?

Thanks Bob,
I will be keeping the original CD unit until I go for ITBs in a year or two, unless it failed before then. This means I need to pull the small wires back through the loom somehow. Any ideas?

Can you just lengthen the original coil wires with additional wire?

Hi Bob,
I suppose you could do but as the small wires originate from the area that I want to move the coil to it seems logical to see if it is possible to pull them back through the loom to that point.
