9" Fuchs - Hoard or Liquidate?
I upgraded my track wheels from 7&9 Fuchs to 9&11 Speedlines. Now I'm trying to debate whether to liquidate the Fuchs, or hang on to them "just in case." I took that route with VW parts, and now I have one bedroom of my house and half of my yard given over to VW parts! I could use the cash, as I submitted my new shop plans to the county last week. I have no idea of the current FMV of these, but I know the instant that I need them, they'll become unobtanium.

Thom-
Depends on how much you need the space or the $$$. I see these sets going on EBay for $1200 and up, depending on condition, all the time. TT |

I bought Chris Streit's 9inchers sans tires and needing refinishing for 1K for those keeping track of dollar value. I believe I could have found a better deal but had the cash and jumped on the opportunity. My feeling was that sleeping boys catch no fish. I have seen the 7/9 combos, finished, with tires, going for "as little" as $1,200.00.
I did this just to get 7/9 combination of genuine Fuchs. I will sell my Targa, the coupe after it, and my wife's Cab. when those days come and go, but I doubt I will ever part with my polished 7 and 9s unless I leave the Porsche fraternity as a whole. So I guess I overpaid to get into the club but am happy to have gotten there, and would probably regret ever selling the 9'ers anyway. They are quite the set of wheels! John

The market value seems to be $1000 for a set of 9's, give or take a couple of hundred depending on the condition and how badly you need them now. I doubt the value will fluctuate over the next few years so your cash is probably better off working for you now on a new project. Listen to me talk, 'Mr. Parts Hoarder' over here.

82SC-
I have a white 930 with 7 & 9" fuchs with white centers. I think this was some kinda factory option vs the black centered fuchs. Lately I've been toying with the idea of painting my wheels (the whole thing) gloss black or replacing em with all black ones. I hadn't heard of the factory all black fuchs until I saw yours. From the pics you posted, they look like they were painted with a light to medium black mist as opposed to a deep gloss. And the centers appear to be darker than the rims. Am I right or does it just look that way in the pics? My wheels are straight and round, but need to be refinished to look perfect. One has some minor curb rash, and they all have dull streaks where the prior owner tried to clean them with something too harsh.

I held onto mine for a few years, since I had no use for them in that period the likehood of needing them in the future could be seen to asymptotically aproach zero, time to liquidate.

actually the wheels looks powder coated in my opinion...but then again this may be due to the fact that the wheels only saw 15K miles before going into storage for quite some time...
both the inner face and outer face are black...and they are shiney-er then the centercaps... since these wheels are perfect (nnot even curbrash) I am looking for near perfect OEM-look 930's...they can be good cond or refinished... BTW if I were you I would list them for a price you'd be happy with and be patient till you get a buyer...the fuchs prices seems to fluctuated a couple hundred here and there....I think it has to do with the weather... ![]() ![]() |
