Bilstein shocks

I really need some help. I have a pair of front shock struts that has bilstein shocks. I need to change one of the shocks completely including the lower section that goes into the spindle(bent). How does that section come out of the spindle section. Also I have been told and read that only a bilstein shock insert will work in a bilstein lower section . Is this true?

Thanks in advance

I have bilstein shocks with boge spindle, no issues. The little cotter pin on the bottom? Just loosen the nut to the very tip of the pin and hammer it out.

If the strut body is green (bilstein), look for a roll pin at the base of the shock, near the spindle. Tap that out, and the insert will pull right out. When you install the new shock, make sure the seam in the roll pin faces away from the shaft of the shock.

Yes - unless you buy some of Elephant Racing's fancy Von shocks.

You can get Bilstein inserts to work with Boge struts but only Bilstein inserts will work with Bilstein struts. Or, as Graham mentioned, Von inserts which were designed for Bilstein struts.
