'81 911 SC wiper noise / not working
My wipers made a clunk clunk noise and stopped working.
I've torn out the ventilation system but can't figure out the problem. If I turn on the switch, the wiper assembly vibrates and makes noise, but the wipers don't move. I'm actually able to grab the wiper arms and move the wipers a few inches. When I do, the wipers work for one swipe across the windshield, and then when they get back to the park position they get stuck again making the vibration noise. Thoughts? |

let the motor park and turn off the key. place the wipers where they would normally park. pop out the speedo. get a short 10mm wrench and reach in and tighten the nut on the wiper motor that attaches to the mechanism.

I just tried and it was already fairly tight.
So I pulled the wiper motor and then took a peak inside. The large gear's teeth are chewed up in one area of the gear. Which would explain why I could move the wipers and then it would catch the good teeth then stop again on the bald spot. Guess I'll look for a used one since they're almost $400 new. Thanks |
