Center Cooler Mounting - how "centered" should it be?
Just got all of my oil cooling goodies from ER. Front mount and new fender cooler package to stuff under my '74 RSR style front bumper.
When I put the center cooler exactly centered on the car, it looks like it sits too far towards the passenger side and I worry that the oil lines won't have room or will rub the bumper. So does it really matter if I push it off center or would it look odd? Also any other things I need to consider before I put holes in for my brackets? |

In my experience the cooler opening in the RSR front bumper is not exactly in the center of the car. It is offset to the driver side iirc.
I don't think it really matters where the cooler exactly ends up. Once you put a grill over it no one will notice. ![]() ![]()

I like your mounting setup. Thanks for the insight. That is what I was hoping someone would say.

Remember...to cool...the cooler must have air flow.
Does your cooler mount as far forward as possible? It should be right up to the grill so that the area behind it will allow the air to flow through and exhaust. I found that by placing coollers in complete flow-through situations...even (by comparison) a tiny cooler would be OK for engine cooling on a Formula Ford. Placement and flow is everything. Bob

Oil inlet......

aston, That's a very nice set-up you have. Which oil line is the inlet? Top or bottom? Who makes this cooler? Thanks. Tony |

Thanks
Inlet is always at the bottom. It is a Setrab 172 cooler. Ideally the mounting should be flexible so the cooler is isolated from vibration. Here's the plumbing layout to include fender cooler ![]()

I have the same front cooler. Had to cut the top mount brackets though on mine and do a side mount. Most of the cooler hangs below the car pan. I do have a good inch to push it to the front of the bumper. I might try to push it forward some.
Thanks guys. |
