I Love Porsches and Corvairs

Well, most of you already know that, but what about when you combine the two?
This is just amazing as to his engineering skills (Makes the mid-engine Crown kit look like child's play):

Ralph Nader and Corvairs...........

The national Corvair club actually got Ralph Nader to come to one of their meetings about 15-20 years ago to be the keynote speaker! At some point during the evening when some of the club members and Ralph were out in the parking lot looking at some cars a comment was made about them turning over too easily One of the car owners looked around and said "Well, I don't see any grass stains on the roofs". They actually got Nader to pose in one of the cars for pictures! I'll have to see if I still have that copy of the national Corvair club newsletter.

Former Corvair owner here too. I loved mine and of course wish I hadn't sold a perfectly good Corsa for 600$ in 1977 just to buy some Lester mags for my motorcycle which I still do have. A Corvair with about 250 hp and 4wd would have been fun.

Fred, he's actually spoken at two of the conventions. My "Unsafe at any Speed" was autographed as well as a "Nader Buck" that Corvair Underground was printing. He was actually glad to talk with owners saying more that once "I'd be nothing without you folks".

there was a time when you would regularly see sand buggies with Corvair motors running side-by-side (and usually blowing the doors off of) with VW's. They always had so much more power and the coolest sound. Transaxles usually snapped like toothpicks, though. But I always loved me some Corvairs.

We had a Monza when we were growing up. Good memories and funny ones, like dying from smoke inhalation in the winter if you wanted heat. Oil would get in the exchangers. Good times good times. LOL

I learned how to drive in a 62 Monza and my first car was a 65. Sort of got me hooked on rear engines. I loved the tail happy attitude, but he was right, the swing axle design for the average driver was unstable. The corvair had more engine and more power hanging out the back than other swing axle designs of the era.
I went through a lot of rear wheels but it certainly taught me car control. My dream was a Yenko Stinger.

Alan's 4wd porschair was on our Targa California in 2011. Work in progress , but it was a cool deal. 911 seats, dash, etc etc
His focus in making a Porsche with Corvair clothing is interesting. He's not a racer, but out to have a good time with his creation.

cool

I thought that car had been talked about somwhere here before. And I remember seeing it in a video clip of your 2011 Targa California.. looks like a nice time with a fun group.

When I was in high school, my buddy restored his mom's Corvair -- first car she ever owned. He just got it back out of a barn a coupe of weeks ago to restore it again. That car has more lives than a cat.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

I knew a guy who put a Corvair engine into his WV bus. Good combination, good power.

My first one was a '65...Could not afford a 911 while in High School, but the Corvair was very competitive against the 911's in autocross. That's what hooked me on rear-engined, air-cooled (Plus I learned to drive in a '62 bug) Plus (almost sacrilege to admit it here), but if I HAD to sell off my cars, I'd sell my Porsches first, as it would be easier to replace them with nice examples of the same in the future)1.

Although we have several, this one has an AC that will freeze the interior if needed. Not afraid to hop in and drive anywhere.
