Another new guy with build....
Hi all, for more than a year I have been trying to build a -73 rs recreation. Goal was to make a car that is nut and bolt built with a good engine and chassi upgrades. However it is also very important for me that the looks stays as original as possible. the build has progressed well but I have missed comments on it. This forum has helped me extremely much as this is the first time i do anything to a car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343293960.jpg
This is what we started with.... Long way to go... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343294003.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343294026.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343294043.jpg Luckily the car was solid and rust free. Sunroof stays as this is no pure racetrack car. |
Welcome and...good on you!
Can you tell us some more about your chassis history , and what other plans you have? I'm sure it will be set up for Swedish drifting! |
Welcome and keep the pictures coming.

Hi again and thank's for the response. As said we are pretty far along the path of the car so iīll post some pictures and wait for the comment, good or bad :-)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343377430.jpg
Car was made rotating so the body could come of, we needed bare metal. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343377493.jpg More like it, then to the coulour. We just loved the 114 Signal yellow http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343377551.jpg So signal yellow with black interior. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343377651.jpg Car just back from paint so now we can start the fun stuff! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1343377806.jpg Boot with new gas tank and refurbed spare. All part are either new or restored to "as new". |
Here are a few pictures of where the project stands today. Next weekend the engine and tranny goes in. Engine is a 3.0 sc with s-cams. 42mm italian Webers. SSI, rsr exhaust (love the double pipes). MSD ignition and 10.5.1 compression. We are aiming for 250 to 270 solid hp. Gearbox is a renovated 915.

Oh sorry Tazzieman! Forgot the chassis.
We are doin bilstein Rennen (clubsport) suspension, coloured black in the front for looks. Carrera 3.2 brakes. 27mm torsion bars in the rear and 19mm in the front. Weltmeister adjustable Sway bars front and rear. And then 16 inch Fuchs in 7 and 8". |
Very nice!

Thank you! I have seen your work and you have done a great one!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif

Wow! The devil is always in the details and you have done an outstanding job so far - good luck and welcome!!!
|
Thank you Otto! We really try to get into every detail to make sure that everything is perfect. Today itīs fuel system, seats and doorhandles. As the lock cylinders after rekeying works so and so I am thinking of putting a central locking on it. Would that be a bad thing?

Long nice weekend!
Hi all, well this weekend we got a lot done. Interior is almost done, only missing a fec electrics and the door cards. The central locking is in but acting up a bit, it locks and then straight away unlocks again. Probably somethhing not running completely smooth so that will be fixed today. BIG part is that the engine and tranny went in! So now the ride height is all done and I love the looks! Feels really good to be this close to the end. Engine compartment and luggage comp needs some clean up in terms of wiring but that should be done shortly.

Beautiful work and excellent progress!!
Love the color as well, nice choice. I have one critique however and that is the plated hubs that look like the wheel studs were not removed before plating. The yellow cad plating process causes uneven stress in the surfaces of fasteners due to the heat and chemicals as well as the metal that is deposited on the surface. In other words it can weaken and make the wheel studs prone to stress fractures which will lead to failure especially if they were sand blasted. It would be best to knock out the old wheel studs and put new studs in which is never a bad idea anyways. I'm sure an engineer can chime in but I have been told this by two different platers I have used on separate occasions which led to some exploring of this knowledge- |
That's lovely!

Hi there!
All was removed from the hubs prior to glassblasting! The bolts was plated after that. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1344247355.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1344247394.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1344247423.jpg |
