Sorry for the slowness on the servers!

Had a hard drive failure today. One of those new-fangled SSD drives took a dump. I had to move the searching database to another drive. Took about an hour and change to figure it all out (logging in from Times Square on vacation).

No worries, back up now, should be running good, although not as fast as before. I will replace the SSD with a newer, redundant one when I return to Los Angeles.

The computers are still not happy for some reason. I'm not sure why. As I am not in Los Angeles, there is little I can do except monitor them and reboot them occasionally. The super-fast drive on the search database is failed, so it's using the backup slower one. This may be causing problems with the main server getting backed up.

I will keep an eye on it.

thx,

Wayne

SSDs are one of the $$HOT$$ items for high performance servers. They will push data as fast as the interface will go.

Wayne, did I hear Times Square? Be sure to hit the Stage Deli on Seventh(come hungry), and while you are there, check out Carnegie Hall and the Park Central Hotel(Jackie Gleason's sometimes home).

You run the entire server(s) yourself? You are more powerful than the Prez then.....

Agree with Quicksilver here. But I think they're only good for gaming boxes

Wish I could afford to equip my FS boxes with some, at least ones that the drives are constantly getting banged all day. . . . but alas, I own a Porsche and she wears the pants when it comes to budget and procurement.

Wayne, I've got a dandy 2850 with 6 15k 300G drives I'll give ya. LOL . . . . shame to throw it away, it was the bomb just a few years ago!

Thanks everyone. Just installed a pair of Intel 710 SSDs in RAID 1 that should do the trick. The previous drive was a single SSD without RAID (this is a slave server, so it's basically a backup). But when the drive went down, the whole slave server shut down and the forums lost 95% of it's database capacity for searching and lookups.

Should be back to super-fast now. Since I installed the SSD in January, the forums have been super-fast. This should restore that performance.

Yes, but I still don't see any change in my typing speed

Thanks for taking time during your R&R.

Salut
