Joe has a 3.6 and would want the 1 3/4" B&B headers, plumb in a Magnaflow 2x2 muffler and he would have a nice setup, ssi are too small and totally strangle a 3.6
the solution for the S hose is 2 fold use an angled adapter, I think Rothsport now has them and insulate the S hose |
As Bill mentions, my engine (which is Bill's old engine!) really needs bigger pipes to run properly. I put the SSI's on when we did the upgrade as they were "quick and dirty" and I had them handy.
Now that the 911 is a daily driver (once I finally finish up the A/C system) am looking for a bit more performance out of the car and the BB headers will be the next step. Thanks for the replies everyone! Joe A |
Running a straight stainless BB pre-muff with O2 bung, a modded factory muffler (fellow Pelican designed) and factory heat exchangers on my '84. Pipe was like new as found in the for sale section for a hundred. Perfect fit, no issues and gets that 3.2 to pump some air. Obnoxious and love it.
So many point, counterpoints on these forums about exhaust systems but what gains you get for the money I think is really in shedding the weight. One of these days will plan to get some dyno results as I'm curious if all the noise is really worth the performance gain. |
Ive run them on several cars and had a few issues here and there, but overall, i like the setup..

But these photos suggest otherwise. Which is it? Stock oil line (under the trans) works or not? |
I don’t believe the 2.7 has a line similar to the one pictured on “my” 3.6 up there. So I believe you’ll need to change the oil line. I do know the typical SC or Carrera style line does not fit with the B&B headers. Their header kit includes a flexible braided stainless hose that replaces the original steel line (actually two lines). These are the lines that runs under the engine, around the back and connect to the thermostat in the forward area of the passenger wheel well

Suggest you also consider Eisenmann, M&K and TT exhausts who all do setups with required 1 5/8" primaries and hot boxes. I ended up buying BBE 1 5/8" headers for the pre -'84 cars with the generic outlets so I had a wide choice of mufflers I could fit. The replacement oil lines supplied by BBE worked and fitted fine. I bought a Dansk Motorsport 2in/1 out muffler that whilst it doesn't drone, it's definitely on the load side! I wanted my install to look neat so had the Carrera air distribution tube and one of the header hot boxes intake modified so it would all work together and look almost (!) factory https://i.imgur.com/0V1nHrv.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CFre2Bz.jpg?1 Remember to specify how many O2 sensor bungs you need too. https://i.imgur.com/9m03AzW.jpg Because there wasn't a lot of clearance between my lower Coil on Plugs and the headers I eventually had the headers ceramic coated inside and out to reduce radiant heat. I also shorted the hot box outlets by about 2 inches to make it easier to fix the hot air flex hoses. After saying all this the standard 3.2 headers are pretty good and have 1 5/8" primaries. I would strongly recommend just buying a cat/primary muffler bypass pipe and a new main muffler from M&K or Monty that I also have good experiences with. I also suggest you look at M&K's new active muffler set up too. This is what I'll do on my next 3.2! |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590285850.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590285850.jpg Source a long spring coil to support the oil passage. Also, a braided insulation sleeve to help shield the hose. It's pretty warm down there. Warm enough to cook a meal. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590285850.jpg Sherwood |
You know this thread is 8 years old right?.. lol.

From my reading, any oil line that goes UNDER the trans won't work, and you need to get the elephant racing line that goes ABOVE the trans. Yet these photos suggest otherwise. Are you saying there are multiple kinds of oil lines that go under the trans? |
If your oil line looks like that one, it should work. That picture shows it does. The underside of a 3.6 is no different than a 2.7 in terms of the engine structure and the oil exit location
No I’m not saying there are multiple oil lines that go under the trans. There are multiple different oil lines that go around and under the rear of the engine. SC is a bit different than Carrera and both of them are drastically different than the 964 3.6. You won’t find much better pictures than I provided. The pictures clearly show the half moon under-trans line clears the B&B long tube headers for their own muffler I believe the typical half moon under-trans line will work for you. Or the over-trans Elephant line will work too |

911.107.739.10 there may be a supersession # that I don't have Here is is on my 993 motor w/ BB headers(it also works fine w/ SSI for smaller motors) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.JPG The line that's special to 3.6-3.8-4.0 t/p's is this one on the suction side that connects to the rubber S hose http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.jpg another issue is how clse the rubber S hose runs to the B&B headers, solutions are a steeel version http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.jpg or thermal insulation wrapped around the S hose http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590346125.JPG |
