New source for Performance Aire lower vent kit?
I'd like to do this NLA Performance Aire lower vent that replaces the bow tie and also add a second lower outlet to increase the overall airflow on my 84 which is limited by the stock vent size. I'm ok with drilling the second hole but can't get any details about vents to attach to them. Any idea on alternate sources for these parts? I'm familar with keuhl single vent kit and other homebrew ideas but I like that the Performance Aire one is more out of sight. I've already removed the bowtie which is some improvement all by itself.
Any new A/C Center Vent / Bow Tie removal projects completed? ![]()

A trip to my local RV supply yielded vents, ducts and adaptors that with a few square inches of aluminum scrap for the bowtie replacer let me cobble up good-looking vents for peanuts, I think the three vents were in the $10-$15 a pop range. I went with the under-ashtray thing but your idea has other advantages re it facilitates messing with the center console if you do any wiring or shifter mods, and I might go there myself. I'm sure you could find something in the style you prefer at the RV places, or on-line RV & boat catalogs, too. Latter might only offer yachty white though

jplucas,
I had one of those kits in my old SC and it does a good job. It worked well and was "hidden". I bought another one of those kits a couple of years ago from Scott's Independent (714-634-2027). I believe Performance Aire is (was) a subsidiary of Scott's and Scott is the one who developed the kit. At the time he had a few kits left.

Here is a similar type of vent that I found on ebay (no affiliation with seller):

I think I have one of those vent thingies laying around. Looks like the one in the ebay link.
Is the drilling of a lower vent hole something you have read about? Kuehl has some higher capacity blower motors that I see as a better choice. As a side note, make sure you evap box is sealed well and check/clean the bottom of the evaporator for dust and hair build up. It's hard to get to through the floor board hole but it is do-able. |

Do you have any more details about drilling the second hole than mentioned in Steve's post in the link? Not sure what he means about sealing both ends of the inserted tube? How to you get access to inside part?

I believe you can gain access to the duct work from the trunk. There is (I think) some upper duct work that needs to be removed underneath the blower assembly.
You want to seal the end of the tube that inserts into the lower duct (the trunk side) and seal around the bulkhead side (the passenger compartment). If Scott's no longer sells the kit they must at least have a copy of the instructions...

FWIW, I did finally get in touch with Scott's this week and they did still have parts. I have a kit on the way here.
