Y26 option on a 78 SC
Have a 78 SC and it has an expensive Y26 option group on it's window sticker. Closest option I can find is a chrome option or carbon fiber on newer models. My car does not have any special chrome options to it. Does anyone have an idea what that might have meant in 78??

Listed for my 78 as well. Best I've been able to figure is that it has to do with required emissions equipment.

Kinda using a process of elimination- does your car have air conditioning - power windows- sunroof -16" alloys -Sport (Bilstein) shocks -Blaupunkt radio - Black anodized trim - items that grouped together could make a package?
Seems like when they did a package like Y26 they added a group of desireable options at a discounted value package price. This was in the beginning of Porsche prices escalating very rapidly -remember the 1976 Turbo was priced at $26,500 so for a 78 coupe to be $24 & change that was a significant raise over a 2 year period. |

I have seen several with this option group and trying to figure it out with Porsche is well..... The usual random options. Maybe they all have this option? Does anyone have one without this group????

Actually, I am incorrect. That code stuck in my head as the CA smog stuff, but that is not right.

Went thru an options index.all have M prefixes(M-26 is an activated charcoal canister for instance.) A guess- maybe a combination or package of options-Really don't know but just a SWAG.

All those things are not itemized on the sticker... could be the answer.

My 78SC coupe was a california car and the most expensive option was Y70. $2,200. This was, I believe, the 16" fuchs wheels, 205 and 225 tires, and bilsten shocks, or the sport package. It is the only option listed with a Y. The sunroof, power windows, rear speakers, roof liner, sport seats, 88 A/H battery, leather, and color to sample $910, are all separate items. California emissions was $110 and the AC was dealer installed, no price listed on sticker just written in. My guess is that it is a the sport package of tires wheels and shocks and included the sport seats. Although the math does not add up 2200 plus 320 is 2520. There might have been some more items included in your
