You two always seem to know the definitive answers whenever the topic of Fuchs arises. I'm debating between 8 vs. 9 inch x16 for my '86 Carrera.
My main objective is to get a wheel that has the DEEPEST LIP for visual appearance only. I've heard conflicting info. Some say the 9's have a deeper lip, others say that the lip on the 8's and 9's are the same, the only difference being that the 9's are 1" deeper on the 'inside' of the wheel. The car will be for street only, so mounting wider tires (eg 245) is not a necessity for me. My other main concern is tire RUBBING. I want to avoid at all costs, and although concensus is that 9" with 245/45 will be ok, i've heard of some instances where rubbing still occurs. Soooo....if the 8's LOOK the same as the 9's, then 8's it is. If the 9's look significantly deeper (lip), i may try the 9's. Your opinion, gentlemen? Thanks Tom |

Hi Tom,
The 8 and 9X16 have the same outer lip. The 9 has 10 mm more outside and 15 mm more inside. The only difference visually outside is that the bolts are sunk in. You'd get the same visual lip with any of them... GeorgeK |

George is correct about the rear 9x16(+15mm os) and the 8x16_+10.6mm os) visually the lips are the same, the 9's have counter sunk lugs.
On my car, over the years, I went from, 8x15 to 8x16 to 9x16 to 9.5x17. I really liked the 9's. As for the front the same can be said of the 8x16(+23.3mm os 944 Fuchs) and the 7x16(+23.3mm os 911 Fuchs) ie the lips are visually identical but the 944 8x16 have counter sunk lugs. On my car I used 7x15, 7x16, 8x16, 8x17. I liked the 8x16 with the 9x16r best. ------------------ Bill Verburg My Home Page ![]() ![]() |
