83 sc wont stay running..HELP!

What is the smaller rectangular box standing vertical on the drivers side engine compartment?? its mounted to a bulkhead and has a wiring harness running from the bottom of it

WHen i push down on it the car will start but if i let off pressure it will die!!
Also when I push down that whine sound when u turn the key to the on position is apparant but upon relieving pressure it dies.

Looked up the part and it says its a windshield wiper relay???

Scott

Year of your car would help ! You might put it below your name so it shows up in every post. Just saying

It's called the capacitive discharge ignition, or CDI, box. Sounds like you've identified your problem -- a loose connection -- where it plugs in at the bottom. The whine means you're good.

From what I can tell its not the CDI unit, Thats further back in the engine compartment.
Its a box about a 1/4 of the size further up towards the three fuses that are exposed

the 3 fuse panel has a habit of over heating the rivets holding the spring connectors to the fuse

pull the small fuse panel off and try gently to tighten the rivets if they are loose then clean the fuses and connectors
