Nope. It was a 7 yr old one owner car, always garaged, clean carfax, flawless service records, clean fluids and ran like new. After 10 yrs of ownership I'd say it was a very good buy.
Caveat: I have been buying used cars for 40 years and have learned to differentiate the cherries from the lemons. I looked at a dozen cars before this one and most were pretty rough or had sketchy service history.

Kind of? Mine was low mileage and garage kept. I'm a former ASE master tech, so I bring to the table experience that not everyone has. I did pay a shop to do a leak down and head stud check. Worst cylinder was 4%, and studs were fine, so I felt confident I knew what I was buying. The car actually had a miss when I bought it, and I knew if the leak down checked out that it was minor. Fixed some vacuum leaks and replaced plug wires and it ran like a champ. Part of how I was able to buy a 72,000 mile Weissach in the fall of 2012 for $12K!

I did not, though I did speak to the mechanic who worked on the car for about 25 years beforehand. Good conversation and enough to give me comfort. I truthfully did not appreciate the value ( and need ) for a PPI and frankly got lucky. Immediately after purchase I had the car completely gone through ( beyond the PPI process and it was deemed exceptional. I'll admit, very lucky. I know so much more now , thanks to this forum.

Um, this is incredible. I bet you have a $45k car now. Not sure if you need the money, but if you do, it's there. Certainly more fun that putting the cash in a mutual fund!

I did and oddly enough the shop that I called to perform the PPI sold it to the PO. I bought the car sight unseen, so I really didn't know what I had until the truck rolled up. In the end, the shop owner is a regular poster on PP and gave an honest assesment. I did use the few negatives on the car to negotiate what wound up being a dollar for dollar reduction in our agreed price. In the future I think PPI's are cheap insurance if they are performed at a shop you know and trust. The shop makes all the difference.

Addendum to above: I've always (jokingly, I hope) said that I'd be buried in my SC ('83). However, now that I've seen the Cayman GT4 and more importantly, heard the Cayman GT4, I'm starting to waiver. Anyone want to buy a 1983 SC with ~130K, never tracked, blah, blah, blah? JUST KIDDING, I think.
