Is there a "tire thread"?

Thinking of new tires for my 85 Carrera - I suspect there's a "tire thread" that gives advice out there somewhere.

Mark.

Mark, first question is what size are your wheels? If you're not sure, you can post pictures here and we can help identify them for you, and get you started with a list of possible tires to consider.

They're 16's (205/55 16 and 225/50 16, front/rear). Sorry for the confusion -- I was just thinking maybe there was one large thread discussing tires (i.e. what brands and models people are using/recommending). I searched and couldn't find anything like that - I've seen threads on some other forums like that. I can dig around.

I highly recommend the Hankook Evo Ventus V-12's from the TireRack. You can read the reviews submitted by other Porsche owners via a drill down search on the TireRack site. I just put a set of these, same size as you are looking for on my 82 SC coupe, and at less than $90 a corner they are really nice tires!

I really appreciate the tip. I was looking at these and wondered about them.

A couple years back I bought Yoko S-Drive's for my 3 BMW's and I love them, but suggested them for my buddy for his SC and he really doesn't like the way they make his car feel, so the Evo Ventus' looked really interesting.

My next tires are going to be Bridgestone Potenza RE 11's.

As posted earlier, Tire Rack is a good resource for you, but you might enjoy this thread for pics:

The Ultimate Wheels & Tires Thread

Or this one for some good info:

87 Carrera.....max wheels & tire sizes?

Mark, I'm running the Hankook Ventus V12 Evos and I've been very happy with them.

I've used 2 full sets of S-03. Now I'm on 050A-Pole Position. S-03 nla. Great handling, noise, rain, streetable etc. 050A-PP is Max performance. RE-11 is higher in Extreme Performance. Max Performance is more than enough for my street driving

The RE-11 doesn't have the thread wear I need. Not that the S-03 & current 050A-PP are any prize as it takes me 20k miles to burn through a set.

The 050A-PP is no longer offered in my size

The S-04 is available in my size. They are in in Max Performance.
Have you heard anything about them?
Any ideas about other Max Performance tires?

thx
