911/ 914 Steering rack in a 930

I understand that there is a slight difference in the housing of a 911steering rack vs a 930 rack because of the anti-dive setup. Does anyone know if there is any reason that a 911/914 steering rack will not work in a 930?

Thanks - Chris

I'm curious to see the responses to this - I understand that the 80's 911 and 930 racks are the same, other than the ends where there are turbo tie rods vs Carrera ones.

I seem to recall the only anti-dive differences are the front A-arm mounting points are slightly lower on the 930's (mine has the spacers).

The racks should be the same, as are the crossmembers. The sheet metal that the cross member attaches to is different, and the front bushing housings get spaced down.

The rack for the SC/Carrera from 78-89 is a 914 part number, whereas the 930 for that range of years has its own 930 part number. That said, I think the difference is the rack ratio and therefore a typical 911 rack will physically fit.

The crossmembers are all the same from 78 to 89. But don't forget about the RS/RSR FORGED crossmember

Advantage of forged front crossmember?

The a-arm is different for the 930 vs. the 911 as well.

Are you sure the A-arm is different? And what is the change in steering ratio?

Well the A-arm has a different part number and the bushing holders are not separately part-numbered. So either the arm itself is different or the bushing holders are?

Well there's some conflicting information out there, so I may be perpetuating the ratio change. However there is consistency that the housing itself is different to agree with the other changes which establish the anti-dive benefit of the 930 chassisisisisisis.

What's the difference between the 930 & 911 steering rack?

I trust Steve Weiner's words!

But others seem pretty confident in their numbers

930 Steering Ratio

Take a look at these pictures. First is a std rack and second is a 930 rack. It looks like the mounting bosses are indeed a different thickness/length
