Oil pressure stuck at 4, not pegged at 5 (searched)

Ever since I got the car last summer, the druck press gauge has been stuck at 4 as soon as the key turns in the ignition. I found a few threads, so I checked all the connections. Funny thing is, when I disconnect the wires from the sender, the needle pegs at 5 (like most say happens when it is a wire/ connection problem). When I reconnect, it drops down to 4, and doesn't go down until car is off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

sounds like the sender is bad, ground the wire and see what happens.

Disconnect the wire to the sending unit. Using alligator clips - attach the positive lead to the sending unit. Attach the black lead to ground. Set the voltmeter on OHMS - you are looking for a resistance reading. Start the car. If the resistance changes with RPM - it's the gauge. If resistance doesn't change, it's the sending unit.

Unplugged - resistance is infinite, which is why the gauge pegs at 5.

rule of thumb with oil at operating temp is 1 bar per 1000 rpm. when cold it could be 3-5 at idle, depending on how cold it is and how thick oil is.
