83 911 sc no spark
I have a 83 911 sc. a couple years ago i had to replace the cdi and coil. I went with a perm tune combo. Now it has no spark at the coil. Perma tune has juice from the fuse box. I check the resistance on the ins according to the perm tune web page. (6 pin connector) pins 1-4 were suppose to have 3300 + - 100. it had 2945. The col has no hot on the positive side with the key on. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Give Lonnie a call at Perma-tune. He can confirm if those numbers are "fatal" or not. They are very helpful there.

I'll do that on monday.
shouldn't the coil have 12 volts on the hot side with just the key on? |

Thanks. Where is this air sensor that makes the pump run?
I have also heard about something you can lift by air box that will put fuel to the injectors, any idea where that is? |

One in the same. Pull the straps off your air cleaner cover and remove along with air filter. Turn key to on and lift the bar up that is in the way-back. You will hear buzzing. That is the fuel going to the injectors. Do it for a second and stop. You will be filling your cylinders with gasoline.

Give some background as to how the car stopped working. Did it die on the road?

backround
Sure the backround is that the car is the winter wonder land of Michigan. I drive it a couple thousand miles a year when I can as I have a classic muscle car and also harleys. It sat last winter and when i went to start it this spring it had nothing. I'm just now getting to trouble shooting it.

Call Perma-tune and see if the unit is cooked. You can also send it to them for testing. Is it a black box? The legacy silver ones were not as robust.
Given that it ran last fall and not now tells me it may be other than the box. The PTune boxes fail (legacy for sure) when they get hammered across running time (not resting time) with an electrical anomaly impacting some of the critical components. Since last fall did you remove the distributor? Any messing around in the engine bay on the left side? I am thinking green wire connection and continuity. Rodent infestation possible? Just asking - is the rotor in place? Is the dist cap on tight? I have a feeling it is something less than the box being bad but let Lonnie tell you that. |

perm tune is a black box. I don't think that is it either but reaching a bit.
no other work done no rodents no distributer work. Cap is good and yes rotor is good. No spark from the coil. Does the cil only get 12 volts when cranking? If so how does it continue after you release the key from the crank position? |

What is green wire connectivity?

The box is energized when you turn the key one. It stays energized. It is fed 12 v thru the upstream side of fuse 11. Terminal 15 is the terminal where 12 V comes in. Can you check if there is voltage there with the key on?
Green wire is the trigger wire from the dist to the CDI. no signal /no spark. The box stays energized and waits for the trigger signal from the green wire. http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/Electrical/911_electrical_82SC_Part1-2.jpg Last edited by Bob Kontak; 08-26-2012 at 12:38 PM.. |

Here is the CD pin out. #5 is the power terminal whether PTune or Bosch.

Pin 5 has 12 volts. Power to the box is good.

Good work. Call Lonnie today.
This guy replaced his coil and revived his SC. You could even buy the cheapest coil (or borrow one from your classic car collector neighbor) you can find just to see if it's the problem. 81 911 sc dies while driving |

I read that and am tempted to take the coil off my boat motor and try it.
I called and left a message at perma tune |
