Many of our customers say they prefer to trust new construction over excellent but old construction. |
Classy response, I like it.
To be clear, these wheels are tested to German TUV standards, not some cheap uncertified Chinese knockoffs, am I right? |

Here's a quick picture I snapped today of the ET0 17x11 on the back of a 930.

Thanks you Shaun. |

I got a tire mounted on the 11x17 today. A worn out 315/35-17 Nitto.
http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...9%3C8336nu0mrj Then test fitted it on a 2002 996 Carrera 2. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A524245ot1lsi http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3B%3C245ot1lsi http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3B%3A245ot1lsi I wasn't concerned about tire clearance or anything. This is a ET0 offset 930 wheel after all. No, I wanted to check that the inner profile would clear big brakes. I needn't have been concerned. Looks like we nailed it. In the rear the caliper as almost flush with the mounting face, just like a 930 so there's loads of room: http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A526245ot1lsi http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3A528245ot1lsi But in the front it sits proud of the wheel mounting face, by quite a lot. Fortunately this is what we were trying to accommodate with the design so it fit perfectly :) http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...67324245ot1lsi http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...A3%3A336nu0mrj Big thanks to Auto Europe in Birmingham for the loan of the 996 and for mounting the tire. (I think they want a set or two to be honest). The car is for sale by the way. http://images2.snapfish.com/23232323...3C%3A336nu0mrj I'm not sure what brakes are on a 02 Carrera 2 but I think thsy might be the same as the 993 Turbo: the Big reds! If that's the case then we are could to go on any 964, 993 and at least a 996 Carrera 2. Later this week I'll put it on the 930 again and, if I can find any, a 964 and 993. We also now have pricing and offset ranges for each width so I will be publishing those later this week. Wheels are now in production so we should be able to start shipping very soon! Very exciting. |
996 Carrera 2 has moderately sized brakes. They're a bit larger in front than 993 in rotor diameter but the caliper itself is smaller. Rears are generally the same size but 993 has a much deeper rotor offset.
996 vs 993 Front 318x28 vs. 304x32 Rear 299x24 vs. 299x24 Big Red (turbo) 996 vs 993 Front 330x34 vs 322x32 Rear 330x28 vs 322x28 The 996 style calipers are rather bulky and can present clearance problems. 996tt Brakes for 911 993 style calipers are a bit sleeker and offer a little better clearance Big Red complete upgrade for 911 914 930 930 clearance should be a non-issue. 930 brakes can fit under 15 in. Thanks Kevin. That's very useful. I'm really good up to 1989 then I get a bit vague.

Paul,
Could you take a few of the front wheels maybe at half lock? Thanks! |
Paul,
What size of tires are you running? Thanks |

We did it!
So I think it is fair to say today is the BIG day. With today's introduction of the new, full range of BRAID 17" Porsche Classic wheels I think we can say this project has concluded!
Thank you so much to everyone who either had technical input, encouraging words or trusted us enough to put down actual money to make these wheels become a reality. The Pelican community truly is special. With that said here is the range of widths, offsets, weights and prices that should soon be available from our hosts: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7281/1...e5666008_b.jpg For RSR finish please add $100 per wheel. Custom finishes are also possible. Weights are approximate and depend on final specification. Those of you who know about these things may already have realized that the exstensive offset range coupled with the built in brake clearance people requested means that these wheels can be ordered to fit way more than pre 1990 911s. We can now offer authentic looking, high quality classic wheels for 964, 993, 996 and maybe even beyond. 924, 944, 928 and 968 should be possible too as well as Boxster and perhaps Cayman. Spread the word. classic wheels for everyone!. Although these wheels are ready to order now and are actually in production it should be noted that they won't be ready to ship to sometime in June. Any questions let me know and thank you all once more. |

Is that a "BRAID" watermark at the lip of the wheel on your picture or are you stamping the wheel with a blue BRAID on them?

I haven't been very "BZ" test fitting this prototype on various vehicles lately due to recent hip surgery but here's a higher res shot of the 930 test fit we did. Enjoy.

Perhaps you should start your own thread about these Robby. After getting the forum's permission of course.
Or perhaps the "for sale" section? |

So a 17 inch CAST aluminum wheel that weighs almost HALF of what a forged real Fuch in 16 inch weighs? I don't believe it and certainly have no idea what it is doing here in Braids thread. Paul, you are much more polite than i. The new wheels look great, can't wait to see more pics. |
|
They look really good! Can you tell me how the RSR finish is achieved? Is it a coating like paint or is the substrate blasted or otherwise mechanically altered to create the look.
Thanks and nice work! |
Are your wheels forged like the originals? Or some type casting?

My vote is that we all just report the spammer. |

I was released by my Physical Therapist for "Light lifting" yesterday which to me meant "Test Fit". I went straight round to my friend's with the 930 and snagged our 17" BZ prototype back and slapped in on a 89 944 Turbo S that was in the shop. As with all of these test fits we are just verifying brake caliper clearance. The prototype is an 17x11, ET0 meant for a 930 or M491 so tire clearance etc. is not valid for most vehicles we intend testing it on. Anyway. It fit easily with about 12mm of caliper clearance as you can see.

How are lead times looking these days assuming an off the shelf order?
Thanks! |
