OK, so I'm out putting leather protectant on my seats, and am looking at them. I notice that the seatbacks look symmetrical, but the seat bottoms are not.

I thinks to meself, "Hey, dumbass, what would happen if you switched the seatbacks?" As in, swap them side for side. That way, I could protect the driver's seatback bolster from further wear, and begin the wear process on the passenger seatback, which has obviously seen very little action in it's lifetime.

Is my idle brain dangerous, and need to be punished with ethanol? Or is this small idea sorta s-m-r-t?

It's been done, just like rotating tires.

I cannot swap mine since the seat release is only on the outside.

It's not a bad idea. What do they look like? More importantly, where are the controls?

On my car, the button to drop the seat back to access the back seats faces outward, so if I swapped my seat backs, the switch would no longer be easy to access.

I've wondered the same thing myself. I would expect that my passenger seat has about 5-10% of the mileage that the driver's seat has.

I'd go a step further and consider moving the whole seat....is that possible? With my 6-way power seats, I'd still be able to reach the controls (which would be inboard, likely in-line with the handbrake), but not sure how the rails line up for the fore-aft manual adjuster though.

I thought about that. When I took the seats out to install the amp and wiring, it looked to me like the rails were symmetical from side to side. I did not experiment. BUT - I only have power adjust on the driver's side. So I would have to move the power lead. And wouldn't I lose the ability to rake the seat bottom? I like that feature A LOT.
