Green Chain Tensioner O-rings

I'm changing my chain tensioner o-rings in a '85 3.2 and I have someone screeming at me not to use "the red seals!... USE ONLY GREEN! --- they last longer!"

Should I be listening to this screeming?!?!?!

I've dug around online for a while and red seals abound. Green... none.

What do you think!?!?!

Karl ~

Red seals are fine. They're silicone and quite durable. You can put a bit of o-ring lubricant on them like Dow 111, Dow 55, Sil-Glyde, or Permatex Disc Brake Caliper lube to protect the ring from oil contamination. They'll last a long time.

John,

If you have a new one handy, red or green, measure the dims of the ring and the tensioner and i'll see what I can find in bulk?

McMaster has Viton o-rings in pretty much every shape and size. So, you should be able to find them if you have a sample to measure.

I think I had a couple spares from my engine rebuild though. If you don't find the measurements by this weekend, I'll try to find them when I get home from LA.
