My official "welcome me to the club" thread with photographs of my '89 Coupe

I'm a long time lurker, regular on Rennlist, and purchased a very clean 70,000 mile '89 coupe in Baltic Blue with Linen interior from Pelicaner RacerX1166 last month. The car has been impeccably maintained and even has working R134a air conditioning.

I've already burned through a quart of oil in the first 1000 miles and spent an hour searching the forum for oil threads to find the proper brand/weight and am getting ready to have my first valve adjustment done.

I already have Momo Prototipo in my garage to install that would already be on had I not ruined one of the hex screws on the existing Momo Competition. Once I figure out how to get it out, I'll hopefully put it on. I also plan to order the full Leatherique system and see if I can bring the driver's seat back to near new.

You can see the typical wear on the 23 year old leather here.

I'm a detail-aholic and here are some shots after some clay barring, very minor paint correction, and some petroleum jelly. Not bad for paint that's over two decades old.

Congratulations!! Beautiful color and the car looks to be in very good condition.

Interior looks good, so take your time. Not a bad steering wheel either. I love how those look.

You will have that interior looking as sharp as the outside in no time.

Enjoy it in good health, and keep sharing the updates.

Thanks. The interior is actually in pretty damn good shape for its age and finicky color. The only issue is that minor cracking on the left driver's side bolstering.

Thank you. Our Fuchs are supposed to receive a thin layer of petroleum jelly every few months per the manual. I gave it a try and it certainly gives them a deep, rich look.

Of course, I actually knew that.

Silly me, I thought you were referencing applying it somehow to the paint...

I was just going along with your comments, because to me, that interior looks great! Look at the condition of the dash and everything else...

That's just absolutely a beautiful example ! I'm glad a "detail-holic" is owning it (this I'm certain) will only keep such a beauty in the best shape it deserves to be in! Congratulations & welcome , I love the combo by the way right down to the linen shift knob & boot as well as those wide rear Fuchs, enjoy!

That car looks almost showroom fresh, what a great example. Welcome to the madness.

Thank you all for the kind words. The funny thing is that these muted blues were a chore for the dealerships to sell new (this one was originally sold in 1990 so I imagine it sat on a lot for quite some time) but have really found a home in the secondary market with age.

I owe many thanks to the previous owner for keeping it in such great shape. As I'm sure many of you encountered in your own search for the right 911, many people are less than diligent when it comes to maintenance and care and it reflects on the car condition after a few decades. It took me 5 months to find the right car; most of the clean examples seem to be snatched up by dealerships then listed at an inflated price.

Very very nice car. I can tell you from experience, I have never once thought I should have bought another car other than the one I did. My car was very much like yours when I bought it. Pretty much the same as it was 23 years ago when it was new. 50,000 miles and basically no stories. That was before I got bitten by the track bug. Now that is pretty much the only time I really drive my car. Enjoy the ride, you are about to have the time of your life.

I understand the track bug well. I don't plan on tracking this car but I have been doing HPDEs since 2005.
