Exposing a dishonest Elmsford NY Shop
Well guys i hate to do this, but we were recently the victim of a massive insurance fraud by a shop located in Elmsford NY. As you all know we buy damaged 911s from insurance losses. In this case, as is becoming more common, the shop who last had possession of the car for the insured while his claim was settled and was paid to store it and keep it safe, decided to make it his own parts depot. I discovered this shop stole easily 5k worth of parts from the 87 cabriolet before the insurance company picked it up. For those who do not know how this works, we bid on the car to buy it for parts directly from the insurance company. It is not ebay or through any third parties. We bid using maybe 6 photos to see the accident damage, thats it. The driver of the tow truck for the Insurance company auction, in this case IAAI in Rock Tavern NY, gets his daily assignments and goes out and picks up cars from shops and returns directly back and they are then photographed. So it is of course unlikely he decided that day to bring with him a 911 trombone oil cooler and put it on this cars 87 lines and keep the expensive cooler and fan right? Or knew exactly what to steal? He is required to tow it directly to their facility. To be even more clear and dispel the myth the previous owner did the theft, he is an investment banker first off, owns no other 911s. As additional proof of the theft occurring in Elmsford NY the insurance adjuster took numerous photos of the car at the shop in question before it left. I personally picked the car up at the insurance company facility and showed the theft right there to the managers and they all photographed the car and what this guy stole from it to document the theft.
For example the cabrio had a nice tan interior in it when it arrived at his shop with tan door panels, it left with two black ones. He stole the engine control box DME, all of the cabrio top motors, cabrio top retractors, cab top control unit, oil cooler under fender was switched with a trombone one, every relay gone, engine blower motor, front fresh air fan, foot well blower motors, seat belt warning light on dash removed. Even the gas tank he switched! and left it loose. In any event i called the shop owner, after finding from the insurance company who he is, and I spoke to him directly. I explained just return the parts to me and i would forget it. He promised to return the parts. Well he said he world return SOME of them. I even called a few guys i know who know him to see if they can influence his stupidity and knowing we have him by the Ballzz and thought maybe that would make him see this problem is not going away. A month now has gone by, several calls to the shop owner placed, promises he would send me the parts, well some of them anyway, no parts show up. The owner claimed he was in Pebble two weeks ago for the auction. Imagine giving this clown your money to go buy you a car? Or trusting him if you know this about him?? I have filed criminal complaints with the US Attorney, the NY State police, and of course the insurance company Liberty Mutual and its claims investigators are all now aware of his theft of the cars parts. I ask you to all consider how this affects all of us, whether you hate scum, or hate high insurance bills from this sort of scam, or think guys like him should be glorified and left to do this again. Most i know like you want him run of of the Porsche world. I am asking all of you know him or have had similar experiences with this shop and let me know and complain so he gets charged with more than just one crime. I intend to put him in jail and expose him for what he is, not what the rest of the world might read about him or what good some of you have said on here and recommended him in past to others. You know who he is, call me or PM me with the circumstances. One of you was asked to meet him in a parking lot for a fight after he stole parts off YOUR car and you confronted him. I am not saying his name here as of yet anyway, so don't ask. Last edited by Weekend Rides; 09-13-2012 at 10:12 AM.. |

There is a shop here in Eugene, Oregon who has done the same things, in a smaller way.
Be advised that it can be very difficult to prove such cases. |

Elmsford Shop.
There is only one place in Elmsford that works on Porsches and for 15 years he's always been fair, honest and reasonable. I hope you resolve your dispute but I hate to read stuff like this on the PP forum.

If I am interpreting this post correctly (you didn't get specific), you're besmirching a shop/individuals who've been respected members of the greater NY Porsche community for over 30 years, get specific or get a life!!!!!!!!

If it is ok to post cars & coffee notices, swap meets, and warnings about places like MM, I don't see what the big deal is in letting this one stay put.

Guys, if you "hate to read stuff like this" then don't read this thread.
It's just that easy really...

Didn't get specific??? The OP got specific in excruciating detail about how he was harmed. The only thing he didn't reveal was the person or shop name. You must have read a different post than I did!

Agreed.
There are lots of other threads on this board that mention this shop with both +/-experiences. Surely It's always good to share recent experiences. Lots of + comments here to offset the OP. Its now up to the buyer to choose. |

I for one want to know - good and bad - about local shops - as long as the post is fair and balanced - which this one is.
For those that know and support the Elmsford shop, it would seem to me has an open forum to dispute what has been said. |

Valid thread if he has photographic proof. I personally know of another person that had issues with them.

This is a helpful and detailed thread. I'm surprised at some of the narrow minded responses. You still have a choice. Last I checked, the Internet doesn't make decisions for you.

If I lived in the area I absolutely would want to know these sorts of things. Valid post.

Valid? Maybe. But as John suggests, it's completely off topic hence the suggestion to move to said thread. You may indeed get a lot more interest over there. The OP has a grand total of 18 posts and has an axe to grind? Sounds troll like...

Is this the same guy (weekend rides) that had an issue with a "customer" a few weeks ago? Karma.....don't post about someone else's business when you complained when you were exposed!

If you are talking about the newbie / 3.2 motor thread. I actually thought that was good discourse about two very different ways of doing business. It ended up being resolved by both parties.
If this is true then WR is talking about theft which is far more serious, and I for one want to know about shops that are in my area that are dishonest. Its not a subject for OT. |
